This position is responsible for effectively managing a portfolio of business while cultivating strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external contacts, independent agents and teams.ResponsibilitiesReview new and renewal submissions, including loss history, to comprehensively assess exposures, determine risk acceptability, set appropriate terms and conditions, and apply pricing based on individual risk characteristics—all in alignment with the company’s underwriting standards and guidelines for each line of business.Contribute to the strategic planning process for the assigned territory by supporting the development of regional goals and objectives; monitor agency performance and recommend improvement plans where appropriate.Exercise sound judgment within assigned authority levels when evaluating risks, setting limits and determining pricing strategies.Implement pricing strategies that reflect individual risk characteristics and recommend enhancements to underwriting practices, policies, and procedures to support the company’s profitability goals.Generate and revise quotes for independent agents, actively pursue new business opportunities, and work toward meeting established sales and growth targets. Effectively manage a portfolio of accounts to maintain performance within acceptable loss ratio thresholds by line of business.Establish and maintain productive, collaborative relationships with agents, serving as a primary point of contact and delivering prompt, professional support to address inquiries and resolve issues for agents, policyholders, and prospects.Provide training and guidance to agents on company systems, tools, and underwriting practices to enhance efficiency and ensure alignment with underwriting expectations.Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments to support agency relationships and drive mutual success.Leverage underwriting expertise to assess recommendations from internal teams and ensure appropriate handling of accounts under review.Review and respond to technical correspondence with professionalism, clarity, and accuracy. Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current on industry trends, evolving market conditions, and competitor strategies.Perform other duties as assigned. QualificationsBachelor's degree in insurance or related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and/or experienceFive or more years of progressive experience in insurance underwriting, with a strong foundation in policy processing and operational workflowsKnowledge of the construction industry, contract, performance and commercial surety bonds.
