We provide practical, code-compliant structural solutions for elevator systems installed within both existing and new buildings.Projects routinely involve coordination with building Engineers of Record, architects, contractors, elevator manufacturer R&D departments, and approving jurisdictions including DSA, HCAI, cities, and counties throughout California and other states.Position OverviewTOG Engineering is seeking a licensed California Structural Engineer (SE) to support and lead engineering projects involving elevator modernization and vertical transportation systems.The role is highly technical and hands-on, with approximately 80% focused on engineering production work and 20% focused on supervising engineering staff, QA/QC review, and technical coordination.The position involves structural analysis, seismic anchorage design, delegated engineering, retrofit design, and coordination of permit-ready submittal packages for elevator-related systems and equipment.The selected candidate will supervise staff engineers while coordinating directly with elevator manufacturers, contractors, Engineers of Record, and approving agencies.Primary ResponsibilitiesPerform structural analysis and engineering design for elevator modernization and new elevator installationsDesign seismic anchorage and structural supports for elevator equipment, controllers, electrical cabinets, guide rails, machine beams, escalators, and moving walksDesign anchorage and support systems for associated electrical conduit, cable trays, hydraulic piping, and related elevator componentsPerform structural evaluations and retrofit design within existing building environmentsPrepare structural calculations, engineering drawings, and permit-ready delegated design submittal packagesCoordinate engineering approvals with DSA, HCAI, cities, counties, and project Engineers of RecordCoordinate directly with elevator manufacturers, contractors, and manufacturer R&D departmentsReview and supervise work performed by staff engineers and designersSupport QA/QC review of engineering calculations and drawingsRespond to RFIs, submittals, field conditions, and contractor coordination itemsSupport engineering operations and internal technical standards developmentCoordinate engineering work for projects throughout California and other statesField verification and occasional project site visits may be requiredReport to company EOR and Operations ManagerMinimum QualificationsActive California Structural Engineer (SE) license requiredBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with structural emphasisMinimum 5 years of strong structural engineering experienceStrong background in seismic engineering and structural analysis with emphasis on ASCE 7 Chapter 13 nonstructural component designExperience preparing structural calculations, engineering drawings, and delegated design submittal packagesStrong communication and coordination skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and priorities in a consulting environmentStrong practical understanding of existing building conditions and constructabilityRecently licensed SE candidates will be considered if they demonstrate strong technical capability and relevant experience aligned with the company’s engineering services.Preferred ExperienceExperience in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred:Elevator modernization projectsVertical transportation systemsSeismic anchorage and nonstructural component designExisting building retrofit and rehabilitation projectsDelegated design engineeringCoordination with DSA and HCAIStructural steel connection designAnchorage design using Hilti or Simpson software platformsCoordination with specialty contractors and equipment manufacturersSoftware ExperiencePreferred experience with:AutoCADBluebeamMicrosoft ExcelVisual Basic programming within ExcelHilti PROFISSimpson Anchor DesignerRISAAI-based engineering productivity platforms such as ChatGPT, Grok, or similar toolsAdditional RequirementsWillingness to pursue licensure in additional states as requiredAbility to work collaboratively within a specialized engineering consulting environmentAbility to perform the actual work required as well as supervise and mentor junior engineering staffBenefitsHybrid work flexibilityProfessional licensing reimbursement and supportTechnical leadership opportunitiesDirect involvement in project execution and client coordinationOpportunity for long-term growth within a specialized engineering firm
