Job Description Machinist 2*This is a 1-year contract (onsite) position*Local to Goleta, CA, only please Description:We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist with experience operating both manual and CNC machinery to manufacture precision metal components to exact tolerances. This role requires expertise in machine setup, blueprint interpretation, advanced shop math, precision measurement, and quality inspection within a manufacturing environment.Responsibilities:Set up and operate machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grindersManufacture precision metal parts, tools, and mechanical components to exact tolerancesRead and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, and technical specificationsDetermine machining sequences, setup methods, tooling requirements, feeds, and speedsPerform machine setups, adjustments, and non-routine fabrication processesUse machinist hand tools and precision measuring instrumentsMeasure, mark, and layout stock materials for machining operationsAssemble and fit precision components into mechanical equipmentMonitor product quality and verify specifications using inspection and statistical process control methodsOperate CNC machinery and support machine programming activitiesMaintain a safe, clean, and organized work environmentSkills/Knowledge/Experience:Strong mechanical aptitude and machining knowledgeExperience with precision measurements and maintaining tight tolerancesAbility to follow written work instructions and technical documentationKnowledge of tooling, feeds, speeds, and machining calculationsFamiliarity with CNC machining processes and machine programming softwareStrong attention to detail and commitment to qualityAbility to work independently and within a team environmentAbility to stand for extended periods and lift/push/pull 35–50 lbs. throughout the workdayPreferred Skills/Knowledge/Experience:4+ years of experience operating 3-Axis CNC machinesExperience with 4-Axis and 5-Axis CNC machiningExperience with Fanuc and HAAS controllersProficiency in CAM programming using MastercamPrevious experience in complex precision manufacturing environmentsRequired Skills/Knowledge/Experience:3+ years of machining experienceExperience operating manual machines and performing machine setupsAbility to read and interpret production specifications, assembly drawings, and technical documents in EnglishExperience in fabricating component parts with difficult tolerances and non-routine setupsExperience performing advanced shop math calculations related to dimensions, tooling, feeds, and speedsFamiliarity with CNC Mills and programming software such as Mastercam or CAM WorksAbility to use power hand tools and precision measuring equipmentMust be a U.S. CitizenEducation/Certification:Formal apprenticeship, vocational training, technical certification, or equivalent hands-on machiningProper email communication will only be done to and from @astyra.com email addresses.
