Medical Assistant

Pride Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team in Shelby Township, MI. This is a 13- week contract with potential for extension opportunity and a great way to start working with a top-tier healthcare organization!Job Responsibilities:Perform initial-response screening following protocols approved by supervising provider.Escort patient to room and prepares patient for examination, procedure, and treatment.Obtain vital signs and record in the electronic health record (EHR).Obtain and record patient history employing critical thinking skills.Prepare for, set up and assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments per protocols, policies, and procedures.Prepare, administer, and document oral, parenteral medications, and immunizations as ordered by the supervising provider, documenting administration following the six rights in the EHR while maintaining accurate medication & immunization records.Document care provided during patient visit in EHR.Recognize and respond to emergencies.Enter medication, radiology, and lab orders in the electronic health record for provider sign off.Collect and process specimens.Perform CLIA-waived tests.Perform electrocardiography, respiratory and other testing based on department needs.Perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture and capillary puncture.Serve as a liaison between patients and medical staff in the event of problems or complaints.Schedule outpatient procedures.Obtain insurance pre-authorizations.Enters referrals for provider sign off.Participate in departmental/divisional Quality Assessment and Quality Improvement Programs.Practice Standard Precautions, including hand washing and disposal of biohazardous materials.Apply principles of aseptic and sterile technique.Clean instruments and equipment per policies and procedures.Maintain compliance with regulatory standards regarding practice, environment, and documentation.Identify community resources for health maintenance and disease prevention to meet individual patient needs.Education/Required Skills:High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.BLS certificationExperience with EPIC EMR, and candidates must meet at least one of the requirements below;Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum) ORGraduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years ORCurrent Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical medical assisting ORLicensed Practical Nurse (LPN) ORLicensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years ORMilitary trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.Preferred Skills & Experience:Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills preferred.Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills as related to ambulatory patient care preferred.Ability to problem-solve preferred.Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills preferred.Additional Information:Location: Shelby Township, MISchedule: Monday 8:00 am-7:20 pm, Tuesday 8:00 am-5:00 pm, Wednesday 7:00 am-5:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pmPay Rate: $16.00 - $19/Hour (Offered pay rate will be based on education, experience, and healthcare credentials.)Interested?
