Role DescriptionThe Cryo-EM Specialist will play a key role in the operation and maintenance of advanced electron microscopy systems and related tools. Primary responsibilities include performing cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) experiments, sample preparation, and data collection to support structural biology research. The specialist will assist in training and supporting researchers, optimizing workflows, troubleshooting, and ensuring the functionality of instrumentation. This is a full-time, on-site position located at the Vaccine Research Center, NIAID, in Bethesda, Maryland, USA.QualificationsProficiency in cryo-electron microscopy techniques, including sample preparation, data acquisition, and image processing.Experience in operating and maintaining advanced electron microscopy instrumentation and associated software tools.Strong understanding of structural biology, biophysics, or a related scientific field.Analytical and troubleshooting skills to improve imaging workflows and address equipment and experimental issues.Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with researchers and provide training as needed.Master's or Ph.D. in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field is preferred.Experience in software for structural data collection and analysis such as CryoSPARC, RELION, or similar platforms is highly desirable.Experience in working within a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment is beneficial.
