Code Enforcement Officer
Position DescriptionPosition ObjectiveTo be responsible for an assigned set of tasks in various Stearns County offices in order to provide quality service to the residents of Stearns County and the general public.Primary ResponsibilitiesThese examples do not include all possible tasks in this position and do not limit the assignment of related tasks to this classification. Provides technical and secretarial support to staff and/or committees county-wide including correspondence, agendas, minutes, flyers, newsletters, broadcast e-mails and other written/visual materials; Assists staff and/or committees by performing a wide-range of miscellaneous tasks including event set-up, displays and other necessary support functions such as picking up and delivering supplies, certificates, etc. both on and off-site; Enters and retrieves information including statistical and budgetary, policy, and miscellaneous departmental data; Assists with the processing of payments and the recording and transcription of documents; Assists with maintaining and updating of County’s internal and external website; Assists with broadcasts and web casts, dubbing of tapes, etc. as trained; Greets the public and responds to telephone and walk-in inquiries, including the operation of a multi-line telephone system; Scans documents into imaging system; Reviews/proofs documents for accuracy; Processes mailings; Maintains filing systems; Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsMinimum Qualifications and Desirable Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesHigh school graduate with one year of post high school administrative support/office training and two years of office/administrative support experience, or an acceptable combination of education and experience, and a typing speed of 50 words per minute.Plus Factors which will be considered in the determination of candidates to be interviewed include: experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, Photo Editor and Image Composer); experience creating (designing/developing) flyers, brochures, and other written/visual materials; experience taking and drafting minutes for committee meetings; experience with event planning and set-up in a professional work environment; and experience providing administrative support to more than one professional at a time.Desirable Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Knowledge of secretarial principles and practices; Knowledge of English, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation; Skilled in written communications; Ability to respond to public inquiries in a respectful, courteous and helpful manner; Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; Ability to organize workload to efficiently prioritize/meet multiple demands and deadlines; Ability to handle information with discretion and in a confidential manner; Ability to complete projects and recognize tasks required with minimal direction and supervision; Ability to work well with others as well as independently; Ability to operate audiovisual equipment to assist with multimedia presentations.Accountabilities, Work Environment and Extent of Supervision or Guidance ProvidedEssential Job Duties And Primary ResponsibilitiesThe essential job duties for this position are regular and timely work attendance, ability to develop respectful and cooperative working relationships, ability to use a personal computer and numbers 1 through 12 under “Primary Responsibilities”.Typical Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentAlmost 100% indoor office work; requires sitting or standing for extended periods of time; requires lifting and carrying approximately 30 pounds; requires working at multiple and varying workstations.Extent of Supervision or Guidance ProvidedReports to Office Services Supervisor.Responsibility for Public ContactExtensive.Supervision Of OthersNone.Hours of Work, Testing and Interview DatesStarting Salary$13.1179 (Grade 10, Non Union position)Full Salary Range$13.1179-$19.8082 (Grade 10, Non Union position)Hours of WorkThe hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; however, may require an occasional early morning and late evening meeting.Test DateFriday, October 24, 2008.
