Third-Shift Packer–Sanitor *Location:* Northbrook, Illinois *Shift:* Third Shift *Pay:* $21.00–$23.00 per hour, plus a third-shift premium *Employment Type:* Full-Time | Onsite *Position Summary* We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Packer–Sanitor to support third-shift packaging and sanitation operations in a food-manufacturing facility. This dual-purpose position is responsible for packaging finished liquid products, accurately labeling and documenting completed orders, and thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing production equipment and work areas. The Packer–Sanitor helps prevent contamination, maintain product quality, and ensure equipment is clean and ready for continued production. The ideal candidate has experience in manufacturing, food production, packaging, sanitation, warehouse operations, or industrial cleaning. Candidates must be comfortable handling cleaning chemicals, working around production equipment, lifting up to 50 pounds, and completing physically demanding tasks throughout the shift. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPackaging Responsibilities * Fill finished liquid products into drums, pails, totes, bottles, or other required containers. * Review work orders, packaging instructions, product specifications, and production schedules. * Select the correct containers, lids, labels, and packaging materials for each order. * Operate pumps, valves, mixers, scales, filling equipment, and related production machinery. * Weigh finished products and confirm that each container meets the required weight. * Apply accurate product labels, lot numbers, dates, container identifications, and shipping information. * Inspect containers for damage, contamination, leakage, or incorrect labeling. * Properly seal, secure, wrap, and prepare completed products for storage or shipment. * Complete production logs, weight records, labels, and packaging documentation accurately. * Maintain product identification, lot control, and traceability throughout the packaging process. * Move ingredients, containers, and finished products using forklifts, pallet jacks, or electric walk-behind lifts. * Report packaging errors, product discrepancies, damaged containers, or equipment problems immediately. Sanitation Responsibilities * Clean and sanitize tanks, mixers, pumps, hoses, valves, utensils, tools, containers, and production equipment. * Clean floors, walls, drains, platforms, workstations, and surrounding production areas. * Disassemble and reassemble designated equipment and production components for cleaning. * Follow approved sanitation procedures, chemical concentrations, contact times, and cleaning schedules. * Use cleaning chemicals, sanitizers, brushes, hoses, pressure equipment, and other sanitation tools safely. * Remove product residue, debris, waste, and potential contaminants from equipment and production areas. * Inspect cleaned equipment and work areas to verify they meet sanitation requirements. * Complete sanitation logs, inspection records, and equipment-release documentation. * Report damaged equipment, leaks, unsafe conditions, pest activity, or sanitation concerns. * Support allergen-control procedures and help prevent cross-contamination. * Prepare sanitized equipment and work areas for the next production run. General Responsibilities * Follow Good Manufacturing Practices, standard operating procedures, HACCP, SQF, OSHA, and food-safety requirements. * Follow all personal protective equipment and chemical-handling procedures. * Comply with lockout/tagout requirements when cleaning or working around machinery. * Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and audit-ready work environment. * Communicate effectively with Production, Quality, Warehouse, Maintenance, and Sanitation teams. * Participate in required safety, sanitation, food-quality, forklift, and respirator training. * Work overtime, weekends, or adjusted hours when required. * Perform additional production, packaging, warehouse, or sanitation duties as assigned. *Required Qualifications* * High school diploma or GED is required. * Previous experience in manufacturing, packaging, sanitation, warehouse operations, food production, or industrial cleaning is preferred. * Ability to read and follow work orders, safety instructions, sanitation procedures, and standard operating procedures. * Ability to complete labels, production records, weight logs, and sanitation documentation accurately. * Basic math skills and the ability to use a production scale. * Ability to safely work with cleaning chemicals, sanitizers, production equipment, and food ingredients. * Ability to maintain proper product identification and lot traceability. * Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness, safety, and product quality. * Dependable attendance and punctuality. * Ability to work the complete third-shift schedule. * Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and flexible hours when required. * Ability to work independently and as part of a production team. *Preferred Qualifications* * Food-manufacturing, flavor, beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, or ingredient-production experience. * Previous industrial sanitation or equipment-cleaning experience. * Experience packaging liquid products. * Experience operating pumps, valves, mixers, scales, or filling equipment. * Forklift certification or previous forklift experience. * Experience operating an electric walk-behind lift or pallet jack. * Previous respirator training or ability to complete required respirator training. * Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, SQF, allergen control, and food-safety standards. * Familiarity with lockout/tagout and chemical-handling procedures. *Skills and Competencies* * Liquid-product packaging * Industrial sanitation * Equipment cleaning and preparation * Accurate weighing and labeling * Production documentation * Food-safety compliance * Chemical-handling safety * Forklift and material handling * Product traceability * Attention to detail * Dependability and teamwork * Time management *Physical Requirements* * Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. * Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. * Ability to frequently bend, kneel, reach, climb, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements. * Ability to handle drums, pails, hoses, tools, packaging supplies, and sanitation equipment. * Ability to work in wet areas and around strong odors, cleaning chemicals, food ingredients, production noise, and changing temperatures. * Ability to safely climb steps or platforms when cleaning tanks and equipment. * Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, which may include safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes, hearing protection, chemical-resistant clothing, and a respirator.
