Job SummaryTo provide assistance to the nursing staff to maximize care to the patient and families.ResponsibilitiesProvides daily physical and emotional care to patients; Provides close observation when patients requires sitters. Will be responsible for completing all procedures within scope of practice and according to current standards, guidelines and policies. Documents information gathered in patient records/computer consistent with policies.Alerts nursing personnel to changes in patient condition, needs and requests. If assigned to a nursing unit, collaborates with other team members to perform rounding.Participates in Unit and Team huddles. Interacts professionally with physicians and coworkers and maintains effective communication and good working relationships. Demonstrates cooperation with the shift supervisors and recognizes the chain of command. Demonstrates independent thinking. Assists licensed personnel as directed.Keeps work environment neat and tidy. Maintains stock, orders supplies when necessary. Responsible for monitoring work environment.Performs clerical functions for the infusion center including but not limited to data entry, scheduling, obtain additional patient information from provider offices, and communicating information to nursing staff.Demonstrates competency and knowledge of emergency situations; Code Blue, Rapid Response, etc. Assists with emergency situations.Transports patients as needed with emphasis on safety, prioritization and effective time management. Maintains patient safety at all times to present any patient injury. Safely moves patients with IVs,Foley catheters, etc. Answers call lights in a timely fashion and communicates the patients needs to nurse.Regularly collaborates with other members of the nursing team in order to maintain equipment and supplies. Demonstrates awareness of the need for cost containment and the economic use of patient supplies. Exhibits competency and demonstrates knowledge in handling all equipment. Possesses knowledge of locations in other departments to assist with necessary equipment/supplies. Able to assume responsibility for the delivery of supplies; ie: central supplies.Ensures accurate identification of all patients at all times. Protects patients privacy; closely observes patient with minimal disturbance.Understands and complies with isolation/standard precautions. Practices and performs proper hand washing techniques on a routine basis and uses gloves when having patient contact.Serves as a preceptor and mentor for Nursing Assistant.Qualifications/RequirementsEXPERIENCE1 year experience working as a nursing assistant, preferredEDUCATIONHigh School Diploma or Equivalent, RequiredLICENSES/CERTIFICATIONSBLS, preferred.CNA Certification, preferred
