Extended School Year Nurse
Job Title: Extended School Year (ESY) NurseLocation: Stoneham Public SchoolsReports To: Director of Special EducationPosition Summary:The Extended School Year (ESY) Nurse provides comprehensive health services to students participating in the district's summer ESY program. The nurse ensures a safe and healthy environment that supports students' medical, physical, and educational needs, particularly for students with disabilities who require ongoing health-related services to access their programming.Key Responsibilities:Provide direct nursing care to students, including medication administration, treatments, and health procedures in accordance with physician orders and district policiesMonitor and respond to student health needs, including chronic conditions, medical alerts, and emergenciesReview and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs), Emergency Care Plans (ECPs), and relevant components of IEPs and 504 plansCollaborate with ESY staff, special educators, related service providers, and administrators to support student participation and access to programmingMaintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with state and federal regulations (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA where applicable)Ensure proper storage, documentation, and handling of medications and medical equipmentCommunicate effectively with families regarding student health needs, incidents, and updates during the ESY programSupport staff training as needed on student-specific health needs, including emergency protocols (e.g., seizure response, EpiPen administration)Adhere to district policies, state nursing regulations, and public health guidelinesParticipate in program planning meetings as requestedQualifications:Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employmentCurrent CPR/AED and First Aid certificationExperience working with children and/or students with special needs preferredKnowledge of school health regulations, special education law, and student health managementStrong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skillsWork Schedule:M-Th starting July 6 to August 6 from 8:15 to 12:15Physical Requirements:Ability to respond quickly to medical emergenciesAbility to lift and assist students with mobility needs as requiredAbility to perform nursing tasks in a school environment
