Senior Editor, Norton Trade

Job DescriptionW. W. Norton & Company, Inc. is seeking to hire a Senior Editor to build a program in commercial and/or genre fiction. This is an opportunity for an entrepreneurial and market-focused editor to establish a presence for Norton in commercial, book club, upmarket, and/or genre fiction (from mystery/thriller/suspense to crime or SFF). The ideal candidate will possess the skills to clearly articulate and convey their publishing vision to colleagues as well as to the wider world of retailers and readers. Essential Job Responsibilities IncludeAcquiring 10 titles per yearMeeting minimum revenue thresholds on a yearly basisAll editorial aspects of book development, including manuscript development and editing; copywriting, including jacket, catalog, and other marketing copy as required; liaising with art and production departments as neededMaintaining publishing and production schedules and meeting deadlinesPresenting titles at sales meetings and elsewhere as neededDeveloping and maintaining relationships with authors and agentsServing as the primary contact for the author throughout the processAttending relevant conferencesManaging or co-managing an assistantThis job description is not designed to cover all activities required of the employee. Required ExperienceRequired Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higherEmployment eligibility to work with W. W. Norton & Company in the USAt least five years of editorial experienceMust be able to work from Norton's New York City headquarters. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule of 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communications skillsMust be creative, pro-active, flexible, and adaptableCompensation and Benefits*Currently Available Benefits IncludeAnnual compensation for this position is between $95,000 and $115,000.
