This position is responsible for developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), delivering specialized instruction, collaborating with staff and families, and ensuring compliance with federal and state special education laws.The teacher fosters student growth in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living while maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment.Essential ResponsibilitiesAdapt classroom materials and instruction to meet individualized learning plans.Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal guidelines.Conduct evaluations, assessments, and eligibility documentation.Lead and facilitate IEP and evaluation meetings.Monitor and assess student progress toward academic, behavioral, communication, and functional goals.Provide direct instruction to students individually and in small group settings.Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families.Supervise and direct paraprofessionals, instructional assistants, and support staff.Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress reports and required compliance records.Manage classroom behavior using research-based strategies.Monitor students across educational environments (classroom, playground, field trips, etc.).Respond to emergency situations and report incidents in accordance with district policy.Provide assistance to medically fragile students as assigned (e.g., feeding, toileting, personal care) under appropriate supervision.Knowledge OfKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesSpecial education laws and regulations, including IDEA and FAPEChild development and age-appropriate instructional strategiesBehavioral management techniquesCurriculum development and lesson planningSkills InApplying assessment instruments and analyzing dataOperating standard office equipment and educational softwareMaintaining accurate records and documentationFacilitating meetings and communicating effectively with diverse stakeholdersAbility ToEstablish and maintain constructive relationshipsMaintain confidentialityAdapt to changing prioritiesDemonstrate patience, professionalism, and flexibilityWork collaboratively with diverse individuals and teamsAnalyze problems and develop effective solutionsQualificationsValid Missouri Special Education Teaching CertificationBachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's preferred)Experience working with students with diverse learning needs preferredBenefitsFHSD offers a comprehensive employer-paid benefits package, including:Medical and dental plan optionsVision coverageEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)District-paid basic life insurance ($75,000)District-paid Short-Term DisabilityPaid holidaysFamily coverage, long-term disability, and additional life insurance options are available at the employee's expense.Application MaterialsPlease Complete The Application Via The Francis Howell School District Website.
