Staff Accountant

Work Week & Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Primarily on-site.
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant supports the daily accounting operations of the organization, ensuring accurate financial records, timely close processes, and compliance with internal controls and accounting standards. This role is hands-on and detail-oriented, with opportunities to grow into more advanced accounting and analysis responsibilities.
Summary of Job Duties
Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate variance
Prepare journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, depreciation, inventory/COGS adjustments, and routine reclassifications
Maintain fixed asset tracking and depreciation schedules
Prepare schedules and documentation for auditors, tax preparers, and reviews/audit
Maintain and follow internal controls and accounting policies
Perform daily bank reconciliations
Record and support cash and credit card receipts
Analyze financial information for accuracy
Support and collaborate with internal teams, including AP, AR, Sales, and branch locations
Process and review expense reporting
Review, analyze, and explain budget-to-actual variances
Record transfer truck mileage sheets and process related monthly work orders and intercompany adjustments Assist with the calculation, preparation, and filing of state and local income taxes, sales and use tax, and Commercial Activity Tax (CAT)
Assist with special projects, process improvements, and system enhancements
Serve as a backup to team members in financial accounting, payroll, and billing
Maintain confidentiality of information
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting
Four or more years of accounting experience
Strong understanding of accounting and tax principles
Excellent attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience supporting audits or financial reviews
Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Professional communication skills
Collaborative and supportive team member with a willingness to learn, adapt to new processes and technology, and support continuous improvement
Preferred Qualifications
Inventory or wholesale experience
Tax-basis financial reporting experience
Strong fixed asset and depreciation knowledge
