TITLE: Senior Accountant - PropertyREPORTS TO: Associate Director of Accounting-Property ManagementDEPARTMENT: AccountingSTATUS: Full-TimeFLSA STATUS: ExemptWAGE RANGE: $95,347 - $103,760 annuallyGRANT FUNDED: NoUNION POSITION: YesLOCATION: 145 Taylor Street, San Francisco CA 94102SCHEDULE: Hybrid 3 days onsite, 2 Days remoteSUMMARYUnder the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Property Accounting, the Senior Property Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting of a portfolio of properties. This includes all rental transactions, month-end closing, general ledger account analysis, reconciling interfund accounts, reconciling bank accounts, performing internal audits, preparing audit schedules and other related accounting duties of the organization.ESSENTIAL DUTIESFinancial Operations & Reporting:Perform full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of properties, including all revenue, expense, and general ledger activitiesPrepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and variance analysesComplete month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring adherence to established deadlines and reconciling schedulesPrepare and submit required financial reports to lenders, regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholdersAccounts Receivable & Tenant Accounting:Oversee accounts receivable functions, including tenant billing, subsidy postings, and rent collectionsReconcile tenant sub-ledgers and ensure alignment with the general ledgerReview and post rent payments, including electronic and check-based transactions (e.g., Yardi Checkscan)Monitor tenant accounts and aging reports; research and resolve discrepanciesTrack resident move-outs and ensure accurate, timely processing of security deposit refunds in compliance with regulationsReconciliations & General Ledger Management:Prepare and review monthly bank reconciliations and resolve outstanding itemsReconcile all general ledger accounts, including intercompany/interfund accounts, on a monthly basisPrepare and post journal entries with clear documentation and audit trailsEnsure financial data integrity across systems and reportsCompliance, Controls & Audits:Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and internal controls, as well as affordable housing regulations (e.g., LIHTC, HUD, or other applicable programs)Perform periodic internal audits to assess accuracy and compliancePrepare audit schedules and support external auditors during annual auditsEnsure internal financial statements align with audited financial statementsCollaboration & Cross-Functional Support:Partner with Property Management and Leasing teams to ensure accurate rent rolls, occupancy data, and billingProduce and present financial statements and other key reports to Housing Development team for new propertiesCollaborate with Asset Management on financial performance, budgets, and operational insightsProvide financial data and support for grant reporting, lender compliance, and regulatory submissionsServe as a key accounting liaison to Property Management and provide guidance or training on financial systems (e.g., Yardi)Cash Management & Analysis:Monitor property-level cash flow and ensure proper recording of intercompany transactionsAssist in identifying cash needs, funding requests, and operational variancesSupport budget tracking and financial performance analysisOther ResponsibilitiesContribute to process improvements and system efficiencies within the accounting functionMaintain organized and complete financial records and documentation
