Database Developer

*Position Overview:* We are seeking a skilled Database Developer to design, build, and maintain the data infrastructure that powers our organization. This role is foundational to how we move, store, and serve data, spanning ETL pipeline development, SQL Server administration, Azure cloud data services, and database architecture. You will collaborate closely with engineering, reporting, and operations teams to ensure data is accurate, accessible, and performant. You document your work, communicate clearly when something upstream breaks, and partner effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to keep data operations running smoothly. *Required Qualifications and Skills* *Experience and Education:* * 4–7 years of professional experience in database development, data engineering, or a closely related role * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred but not required * Demonstrated experience building and maintaining production database environments and ETL pipelines *Core Technical Skills:* * Advanced SQL proficiency: stored procedures, views, functions, query optimization, and indexing strategies * Deep experience with Microsoft SQL Server: schema design, performance tuning, security, and administration * Hands-on ETL development experience: designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines across multiple source systems * Microsoft Azure data services experience: Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, Azure Blob Storage, or comparable services * Solid understanding of relational database design, normalization, and data modeling principles * Experience with data quality monitoring, error handling, and pipeline observability *Valued Extra:* * PostgreSQL experience: schema management, query development, and integration with existing pipelines * Familiarity with Python or scripting languages for data transformation or pipeline automation * Experience with data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, or star schema design * Exposure to DevOps practices: version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, or infrastructure as code for database deployments * Familiarity with reporting tools such as SSRS or Power BI and how they consume database objects *Key Roles and Responsibilities* *Database Development & Administration:* * Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server databases including schemas, stored procedures, views, indexes, and constraints * Optimize query performance and database structures to meet application and reporting SLAs * Manage database security, access controls, and user permissions in alignment with organizational policies * Support PostgreSQL environments as needed, contributing to schema management and query development *ETL Pipeline Development:* * Build and maintain ETL pipelines that extract data from multiple source systems, apply transformations, and load into target databases or data warehouses * Monitor pipeline health and reliability; respond to failures, data quality issues, and performance degradation in a timely manner * Design transformation logic that is accurate, auditable, and maintainable over time * Document ETL workflows, data lineage, transformation rules, and scheduling configurations *Azure Data Engineering:* * Develop and support cloud data solutions on Microsoft Azure, leveraging Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, and related services * Contribute to cloud migration or modernization initiatives as the organization evolves its data infrastructure * Apply Azure best practices around security, access control, cost management, and scalability * Collaborate with infrastructure and IT teams on Azure environment configuration and governance *Collaboration & Data Quality:* * Partner with report writers, analysts, and application developers to ensure database objects meet downstream consumption needs * Identify and resolve data quality issues at the source, transformation, or load stage * Maintain thorough technical documentation, including data dictionaries, ERDs, and pipeline runbooks, for team reference and audit purposes * Participate in code and design reviews to uphold engineering standards across the data team Pay: $90,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year Benefits: * 401(k) * Dental insurance * Retirement plan Work Location: In person
