Teacher's Aide

Purpose and ScopeUnder the general supervision of the teacher/principal, the instructional aide will assist the classroom teacher in the supervision and instruction of students. The instructional assistant is responsible to help provide a well-organized, smoothly functional class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.Instructional Aide Duties and ResponsibilitiesHelp shape and develop a school wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student.Assist in the educational development of students under the direction and guidance of the classroom teacher.Participate in lesson practice and delivery of the adopted curriculum.Prepare materials for lessons, demonstrations, and bulletin boards.Operate equipment including computers, printers, photocopiers, and laminators.Ensure that students have all materials necessary for class activities.Work with students individually or in small groups as instructed by the teacher.Provide extra help as needed to students with physical, mental, or linguistic challenges.Support students with assistive devices and supportive technologies when needed.Coordinate with classroom teacher to determine daily tasks.Adhere to accommodations in students’ SSPs and 504 plans.Lead activities designed to foster students’ mental, physical, and social development.Provide active supervision of students in various settings including but not limited to classrooms, playgrounds, and field trips.Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system that aligns to campus- wide initiatives while developing students’ character and sense of community in the classroomEnforce school rules and policies as well as assigned teacher’s protocols and procedures.Participate in parent-teacher conferences when requested by teachers.Attend staff meetings, professional development, and training sessionsCommunicate appropriately with parents and staff and refer all parent questions and concerns pertaining to students to the teacher.Treat confidential information about students, staff, and school affairs in a professional and ethical manner.May be asked to assume the duties of the teacher in the absence of the teacher.Be punctual and prepared to start work .Performs other related duties as assigned, demonstrates ability to be flexible, and carries out duties.Maintain open and consistent communication with the teacher.Instructional Aide Requirements And QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED requiredAssociate’s degree in education or related field preferredCertification in child first aid and CPRAt least one year of relevant experience in an educational or childcare settingExemplary written and spoken communication skillsStrong collaboration skills; able to work well with a teamEffective multitasker; can prioritize tasks based on importance and deadlinesMust complete Safe Environment training, pass background check before starting employmentAbility to instruct students and manage student behaviorStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsAbility to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment
