As a family-owned company, we value teamwork, integrity, and long-term employee growth.Position SummaryThe Senior Accountant is responsible for managing multi-state tax filings, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting activities. This role focuses on sales/use tax, Ohio CAT, audit coordination, and ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. The position also supports internal controls, ERP system initiatives, and cross-functional collaboration with operations.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and file monthly multi-state sales and use tax returns.Manage tax registrations, filing calendars, and exemption certificate documentation.Prepare and support Ohio CAT filings and other state/local compliance reporting.Assist with internal and external audits, including multi-state BWC audits, insurance audits, and audits conducted by outside CPA firms.Respond to state notices and compliance inquiries in a timely manner.Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.Assist with financial statement preparation and ensure tax-related accounts are accurate and GAAP compliant.Review compliance with internal controls and accounting SOPs; identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data and reporting.Prepare accrual calculations (sales commissions, royalties, warranties, etc.) and submit to payroll for processing.Assist with the physical inventory process and ensure proper financial reporting alignment.Support payroll processing as needed.Assist in developing and updating accounting SOPs and collaborate with operations to improve processes.Support ERP system transition and implementation initiatives.Maintain organized documentation and identify process improvement opportunities.Maintain confidentiality and integrity when handling sensitive financial data.Perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsBachelor's degree in accounting or related field preferred.5+ years of general ledger and accounting experience, preferably in construction, real estate, or related industries, including multi-state tax compliance and financial reporting.Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.Strong knowledge of sales/use tax and state compliance requirements.Experience with CAT filings, BWC audits, and insurance audits preferred.Experience supporting software system transitions or ERP implementations.Demonstrated experience with ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics SL, QuickBooks, ADP).Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365.Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Must be able to work onsite five days per week.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesEstablish and maintain strong professional credibility and build sustainable internal relationships.Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, clients, and auditors.Take initiative and work effectively with minimal supervision.Demonstrate strong accountability, logical reasoning, and follow-up skills.Work Environment & Physical DemandsPrimarily office-based, with interaction in construction-related job site, warehouse, or shop environments as needed.Work involves prolonged sitting and repetitive hand/finger motions using a computer.Occasional walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting items up to 15 pounds.Limited climbing, crawling, pulling, or pushing may be required (e.g., inventory support).TravelLimited travel to local jobsites and Erie, PA location as needed.Occasional travel for conferences or training.BenefitsCompetitive salary, commensurate with experienceAnnual performance and team bonusesMedical, Dental, Vision, and Life insurance401(k) with company matchEqual Opportunity StatementEmpaco is an Equal Opportunity Employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local fair employment practice laws, including those of the State of Ohio.
