Preservation Assistant ROD
The Register of Deeds is responsible for providing the proper and safe repository of deeds and other documents affecting property or personal status (including birth certificates, death certificates, and marriage licenses). An hourly salary range of :$24.72 - $28.73 is anticipated for this position.The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
Maintaining a digital catalog of all records kept in the Office, totaling millions of images.
Identifying physical records in need of digitization and/or physical preservation.
Performing tasks for the digitization of physical reocrds, including scanning and importing of images into the digital catalog.
Indexing historic records for the digital catalog.
Providing recommendations to leadership to aid in decisions for vendors and projects related to preservation of physical records.
Work with the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources to catalog Gaston County records that are held by State Archives and confirm receipt of new records.
Providing backup for other office functions, including Land Records and Passports.
Associate's Degree or higher, with a preference for majors in History, Technology, Public/Bus. Administration, Records/Information Management, or Legal Studies.
Preferred Qualifications
Two or more years of related experience preferred.
Special knowledge, abilities, skills, physical requirement and other factors: Critical thinking skills, technical skills for creating and managing databases, proficient in typing, ability to work independently, ability to handle changes in schedule or duties, ability to lift up to 30 pounds, ability to handle important historic records with care and precision
