About This Job The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purposes of road/bridge construction and maintenance. This position is in D05/Maintenance Section of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to HF 1. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.Minimum Qualifications No experience or training is required.Job Specification The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here .Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties:Operates the following heavy machinery as needed: Asphalt Distributor (truck mounted), Backhoes, Front end loaders, Bucket/ladder trucks, Cranes/draglines (lifting capacity >20,000 lbs but Operates skid steers, rollers, jet air patcher, 72-hp tractors with 15ft. bat wing mowers, and tractor mounted slope mower. Installs and maintains temporary traffic control devices and serves as a flag person during traffic control operations. Uses a variety of hand tools such as: shovels, rakes, jackhammer, demolition saw, chain saw, string trimmer, and pole saw. Performs manual tasks such as pothole patching, manual cutting of bush and grass, ditch digging, cleaning buildings, assisting in mud jack operations, cutting trees, collecting litter, cleaning & repairing of Asphaltic Concrete and Portland Cement Concrete Pavements as well as bridge decks, and other manual tasks as needed to accomplish the department's mission.Performs minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment in accordance with operator's manual and manufacture's recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely.Will need light computer skillsMay require nighttime operations or call outs for emergencies that occur outside of normal work hoursLifting a maximum of 50 pounds will be required. This position is eligible for premium pay of up to $2.00 per hour. A 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent statusMEO 2 $17.18/hr - Class A, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. This position is eligible for premium pay of up to $2.00 per hour.
