Job Description:Dean of Student Life - Wilton High SchoolCertified or eligible for certification as an Intermediate Administrator preferred, but not requiredMaster's degree - major focus appropriate to responsibilitiesSuccessful experience as a secondary teacherDemonstrate the ability to work with all students both in individual and group settings.Knowledge of best practices in social emotional learning, student wellness, conflict resolution, restorative practice, and discipline.Effective interpersonal and human relations skillsSuch additions and alternatives to the above qualifications as may be appropriate and acceptableJOB GOAL: In partnership with students, staff, and families, the dean of students will help to ensure a personalized school experience that enables each student of Wilton High School to experience personal and academic success and realize the district's Vision of a Learner.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Implements Board policies and regulations, school goals, and performance responsibilities in order to ensure that all the students are provided every opportunity to reach their full potential.Be a highly visible staff member serving as a presence within the school to the student body and the staff.Create and implement school programs to aid students as they become Balanced, Healthy Human BeingsCreate and manage a Restorative Practices Program for In-School-Suspension and Detention incidentsAddress disciplinary infractionsAssign and oversee detentionsDevelop a discipline referral systemCreate and coordinate a student ambassador programCoordinate with the Civic and Social Expectations Instructional Leaders regarding the WHS Advisory Program by creating lessons to be delivered by classroom and advisory teachersOversee orientation programs and Link CrewOversee student recognition programs: Braveheart and VoicesCreate and administer a club advisory board to oversee and work with all club leadersEnhance the campus supervisor programWork closely with the administrator who supervises and evaluates the campus supervisorsManage daily activities of 4 campus supervisors, enhance safety & security, and oversee coverage schedulesWorks closely with students and parents to ensure that school rules and regulations are understood and followed.Works with counselors and support staff in assessing student needs and assists in developing programs designed to meet those needs.Assists in the resolution of conflicts between students; implements restorative measures as appropriate.Monitors student attendance reports to identify and respond to situations regarding excessive absences from and tardiness to school.Confers with families, teachers, and support staff to develop plans to promote improved attendance to school and class.Communicates effectively with staff, families, and community representatives.Create and follow up on safety plans for studentsAddress parking violationsMaintains accurate records of all student discipline problems and interventions.Meets with teachers to address concerns, mediate situations, or provide special guidance regarding students.Works with guidance and counseling staff to ensure that students receive appropriate services that meet their school and personal needs.In consultation with the principal, establishes annual student-centered goals on a clearly defined priority basis, prepares strategies for achieving these goals, and develops criteria for evaluating the attainment of the goals.Keeps informed on current trends, practices, and research in secondary education by advanced study, by visiting other school districts, by attending conferences, and by other appropriate means.Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs.Accepts additional assignments in the role of Dean as directed by the Principal.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 187 days in accordance with WEA contract.
