Assistant Warehouse Manager

Position SummaryThe Assistant Warehouse Manager (AWM) plays a critical leadership role in supporting the Warehouse, Fabrication, and Shipping/Transportation departments. This highly visible position is responsible for reinforcing company standards, modeling expected behaviors, and driving operational excellence across all functions. The AWM partners closely with leadership to ensure productivity, quality, and safety goals are consistently achieved while fostering a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment.Essential Duties/ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are representative of the role; additional responsibilities may be assigned as business needs evolve:Train and onboard new hires, ensuring a smooth transition into warehouse operations and company standardsRetrain, coach, and continuously develop current associates to improve performance, productivity, and engagementCreate, implement, and monitor individualized performance improvement plans when necessaryLead and support projects related to new warehouse technologies, systems, and process improvementsProvide leadership coverage for Supervisors and the Warehouse Manager during absences or as operational needs requireIdentify and communicate quality, housekeeping, and safety concerns; partner with leadership to implement corrective actionsEnsure all machinery and equipment are operating efficiently, properly maintained, and used safelyEnforce compliance with all company policies, procedures, and safety standards, including OSHA regulationsCollaborate with Supervisors and cross-functional teams to identify operational gaps and implement continuous improvement initiativesEvaluate current processes and recommend enhancements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and throughputPromote a positive work environment by maintaining a professional attitude and serving as a role model for team membersParticipate in and support safety meetings, training sessions, and accident prevention initiativesEnsure consistent use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), including mandatory hard hat usage at all times in the warehouseAssist with workforce planning, scheduling, and daily task assignments to optimize labor utilizationDrive productivity, accountability, and performance across all areas of the operationQualificationsExpert-level knowledge of warehouse operations, including receiving, inventory control, fabrication, and shipping processesMinimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or distribution environmentDemonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, high-volume operationExperience / Skills / Abilities RequiredStrong leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop employees at all levelsExcellent organizational, planning, and time management skills with the ability to prioritize competing demandsProficiency in computer systems, including warehouse management systems (WMS), and ability to leverage technology to improve operationsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutionsAbility to contribute to budgeting processes and manage resources efficientlyHigh level of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and qualityResourceful, proactive, and results-driven with the ability to take initiative and work independentlySound judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational needsStrong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationshipsProfessional presence and ability to lead by example in both behavior and performanceCommitment to safety, including knowledge of OSHA standards and enforcement of best practicesFlexible schedule with the ability to adjust hours and shifts based on business demandsWork Environment / Physical DemandsOffice, fabrication and manufacturing shops – moderate to loud noise level. This position regularly requires standing; walking; sitting; use hands; reaching with hands and arms; and talking and/or hearing. Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. The position regularly performs duties away from the place of business. Frequent driving is a requirement of the position.The position may require duties performed off-site, with frequent driving as part of job responsibilities.
