Director Of Magnet And Nursing ExcellenceThe Director of Magnet and Nursing Excellence is responsible for the entire Magnet Designation process, beginning with Magnet readiness assessment, gap analysis, and ultimately ending with Magnet designation. The Director will provide leadership, planning and coordination during the Magnet application process and focus on preparation for designation, maintenance of related databases to drive business goals, and cultivation of a positive and healthy professional practice environment. This position is accountable for leading change efforts in collaboration with nurse leaders and staff while utilizing the ANCC Magnet framework of excellence to create and implement innovative staff engagement methodologies, systems and processes. The position identifies relevant nursing quality indicators, developmental needs, performance improvement and research initiatives, and other activities that sustain and advance a culture of excellence. This Nurse Leader serves as an ambassador of the Magnet program, employing a variety of communication strategies to enhance awareness of standards and exemplars throughout the department of Nursing. This position collaborates with teams at Maimonides Medical Center, Midwood Community Health, and Ambulatory locations for sharing of best practices, reporting methodologies and identification of potential duplication of effort.ResponsibilitiesCommunication: Strong written and verbal skills are demonstrated in reports, correspondence and presentations. Ensures staff are kept informed of Maimonides Health and departmental priorities. Communicates vision statement and Maimonides Health's strategic priorities and demonstrates commitment toward their achievement.Professional Development : Participates in conferences, workshops and other professional development activities to maintain licensure and/or remain professionally current with advances in field of expertise.Staff Development: Develops, coordinates and evaluates programs to advance a culture of excellence, including special events, ongoing Magnet campaign and various communication strategies for staff.Problem Solving : Recommendations and decision making reflect strong analytical skills and focus on quality, cost containment, and impact of change on other departments.Customer Service Management : Serves as a knowledge expert and resource in interpreting and integrating the Magnet standards. Is perceived as a role model by staff, peers in culture excellence leadership.Project Management : Participates and or leads in multi-disciplinary task forces, committees and projects, demonstrating team spirit and ability to work with different internal customers. When leading a project team demonstrates the ability to bring together different views and skills toward timely and effective completion of project objectives.Strategic Leadership: Ability to lead, develop and execute multi-year strategies in nursing and across the broader organization.Data Management : Collaborates with key stakeholders to customize and manage and monitor changes to databases responsive to nursing's needs, e.g., National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI), Magnet Recognition Program reports, demographic reports, and RN engagement surveys. Analyzes, synthesizes, and trends multi-year nurse engagement survey reports and supports action plans.Contributes to the achievement of the hospitals mission through the development and leadership of performance improvement activities related to Magnet designation status.Assures continual compliance with regulations and accreditation standards through monitoring activities, design and implementation of strategies to enhance Shared Governance.Carries out the responsibilities in collaboration with the CNO, Nursing Excellence team as well as Magnet Champions.Spreads the inclusion of other departments & disciplines as essential for and contributory to re-designation.Assists the Quality Team in the analysis & interpretation of the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) for patient outcomes and nurse satisfaction.Serves as the Magnet advisor to the nursing leadership team, chair to Magnet steering committee, and functions as a liaison to hospital departments and consultative resource for administration, nursing, non-nursing employees, physicians, and community.Facilitates and oversees the preparation of documentation, policies, research and informational sessions relative to maintaining Magnet status. Facilitates the understanding and integration of Magnet recommendations into outcome achievement.Develops the application, writes the final document including the submission of all required documents.Acts as an expert in Magnet standards and proactive in the identification of exemplars and collection of evidence.Assumes organization wide responsibility for coordinating all aspects of the ANCC Magnet application, designation, and maintenance process. Design/implement unit-based in-service, programs based on organizational, unit specific or individual learning needs and promote staff involvement in the implementation of these programs in accordance with Magnet Standards/Guidelines and implements processes to improve patient safety and prevent or minimize safety related eventsOther Job DutiesPerforms other related duties as required.Basic CompetenciesEducation:Master's degree in health or business administration or a related field required.Doctorate or PhD in nursing or health care field preferredCurrent NYS license as RN required.Certifications:Nurse Leader certification required within one year of hireClinical Nurse specialty certification preferred within one year of hireBasic Life Support (BLS) RequiredAdvanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required in critical care patient areasPediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) requires in pediatric patient care areasQualificationsRequirements:Master's degree in nursing or relate field.Three to five years of experience in healthcare and/or nursing leadershipCapable of multitasking (juggling priorities) and meeting or exceeding goals within identified time framesHigh-level knowledge and experience with executing strategic programs to drive business successAbility to communicate effectively with all levels of the organizationExcellent writing skills & exceptional presentation skillsStrong computer skills, including Word, Excel & Power Point.Ability to be innovative, creative, and able to inspire, engage, & develop others.Preferred:Doctorate in Nursing.One to three years prior experience with project/program management in a Magnet Health Care setting.Knowledge of Magnet standards and experience in a Magnet organization.Pay RangeUSD $180,000.00 - USD $200,000.00 /Yr.Equal Employment Opportunity EmployerMaimonides Medical Center (MMC) is an equal opportunity employer.
