Job Summary: We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a team of 5–6 developers building and maintaining software for DMV services kiosks. This role is backend-heavy and centered on C#, VB.NET, and SQL Server systems that power core kiosk workflows, with additional responsibilities across .NET web applications and WinForms desktop applications.The primary objective of this role is to help migrate existing kiosk applications to Microsoft Azure Cloud. The ideal candidate will develop a strong command of the current application portfolio and contribute meaningfully to the planning and execution of the Ae transition.Success in this role requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work across mixed technology stacks, and ownership of delivering reliable solutions in real-world production environments.Duties and Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain core application logic using VB.NETBuild and maintain WinForms desktop applications, including the SST clientDesign and optimize SQL Server queries and data access patterns for high-performance, transactional systems with a strong emphasis on query efficiency, indexing strategies, and minimizing latencyBuild and support web applications using C# / ASP.NET, including Web Forms, Web API, .NET MVC, and RESTful APIsContribute to the modernization of existing kiosk applications with Microsoft Azure Cloud and Vue.jsTroubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across the database, backend, and UI layersWork within and improve complex legacy systems while maintaining production stabilityCollaborate with developers, the Software Development Manager, the product team, and technical operations to deliver high-quality releasesParticipate in code reviews and contribute to improving development standards and practicesSupport automated testing and CI/CD pipeline improvementsEducation and Experience:5–8 years of professional software development experienceStrong experience with SQL Server, including query design and optimization, performance tuning, and efficient data access patternsStrong experience with VB.NET and C#Experience with SPA, .Net MVC, Web Forms, Windows Services, and WinForms application developmentExperience working on systems where performance and reliability are critical to business operationsExperience with Microsoft Azure Cloud architecture and developmentExperience conducting code reviews and mentoring other engineersExperience working in complex, multi-system or legacy-integrated environmentsExperience leveraging modern AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Microsoft Copilot)Experience with UWPExperience modernizing legacy systems or working in hybrid environmentsExperience with automated testing frameworks (Selenium, Playwright)Familiarity with CI/CD pipelinesExperience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments (e.g., PCI)Experience with devices like printers and credit card readersKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Technology Stack:VB.NETC#Visual Studio 2022ASP.NET – Web Forms, Web API, MVC, and RESTful Services.NET Framework 4.8 & .NET CoreWinFormsAzure CloudSQL ServerView.jsAbility to debug complex issues across multiple layers (database, backend, UI)Proven ability to design and implement maintainable, scalable systemsStrong collaboration skills across engineering, QA, and product teamsAbility to take ownership of deliverables and drive work through to completionAbility to quickly understand existing systems and make safe, incremental improvements in production environmentsDevelop a strong command of the current kiosk application portfolioIndependently deliver solutions involving VB.NET, C#, and SQL Server with minimal oversightActively contribute to the Azure cloud migration planning and executionImprove performance or reliability of existing systemsEffectively troubleshoot complex production issues across multiple layersProvide mentorship and elevate team technical standardsDemonstrated understanding of system quality attributes, including:ReliabilityScalabilitySecurityMaintainabilityWork Environment:Office setting with a moderate noise level.
