In this role, you will report directly to the Regional EHS Partner. This position requires working outdoors daily in an industrial setting. It also requires daily onsite travel to the following locations at Sims Metal: N. Chili, NY, Auburn, NY, Rome, NY, Frankfort, NY, York, PA, Bloomsburg, PA, Williamsport, PAPrincipal AccountabilitiesLead and direct the 'area/regional/sub-regional' multi-site operational application of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) as per Company EHS Standards, and local regulatory requirements for assigned sites. EHS standard and program components. Will support the implementation of the Company EHS Management System components and report to EHS management and operations partners on performance and improvement guidance.Proxy for EHS Regional Manager when on leave (short/long term). Can operate in an isolated region, with full autonomy in EHS-related matters/decision-making.Manage the implementation of programs to meet local legislative requirements. (i.e. fire, injury/illness prevention plans.)Facilitate strong interface with local operational partners, HR, IT, etc.Manage and implement local activities designed to promote commitment and adherence to requirements of global EHS policy, standards, and EHS-related procedures for assigned sites, processes, and equipment.Manage quality aspects of the EHS Data Management System to ensure consistent reportingSupport the implementation of EHS Management System components to ensure site-level and end-user applicability.Participate in the EHS overview of business risks through monitoring lead and lag indicator data and develop focused corrective action plans.Manage and participate in local leading indicator components (i.e., Critical Control Verification, Corrective Action Closure, Quality Reviews, EHS Training completion, Incident Learning)Manage and participate in local progress in incident investigations (Incident Learning/Gap Event Assessment) to ensure corrective and preventive measures are adequate and implemented in a timely manner.Conduct local risk assessments, industrial hygiene monitoring, and workplace inspections.Perform and participate in applicable internal and external audits and take appropriate corrective actions as required.Participate in all monthly Critical Control Verifications, General Inspections and associated corrective actions.Manage and participate in the completion of the Company's or local EHS-related training needs.Manage the implementation and continual improvement of emergency-response procedures and action plansEnsure site-specific permitting and other regulatory items are met with the support of Environmental Managers and the EHS Director.Build and maintain trust-based relationships with all levels in order to facilitate the delivery of EHS objectives and goalsUnderstand how work is done in the front-line, including adaptations made to cater for contexts such as goal conflicts – use this knowledge to advise on risk controls and proceduresCoach operations in the effective implementation and use of the EHS management systemLead regional special EHS projects with technical requirements or site-specific expertise where required. Support the facilitation of EHS training and implement appropriate programs in conjunction with special projects or specialised sites, where required.Facilitate learning and improvement from significant EHS eventsFacilitate regulatory visits and regulatory reporting where requiredProvide EHS information to customers and vendors as requestedProvide subject matter expertise to customer-facing audits, downstream vendor audits, and sub-contractor audits, where requiredSupport the management of workers' compensation, injury management, return-to-work and rehabilitation arrangementsSupport training and performance-management initiatives by trialling content with end users and providing feedback to EHS leadership.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Inspections (General and Critical Control Verification for Operations and EHS personnel of EHSDelivering and completing trainingPerforming inspectionsCorrective actions implemented and completedCritical risk incidentsReported incidents/accidentsLost time incidentsExperience / Qualifications RequiredBachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experienceMin. of 5-7 years' experience in a high-hazard industrial environment, having site-wide or regional responsibility for safety and health issuesExperience implementing workplace health, safety, and environment management systemsSupervisory and training experience relating to job performance and safety on the job, preferredMay include technical and/or professional certifications such as Industrial Hygiene, Workers Compensation managementSkillsExcellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, and presentation skillsAbility to work effectively witha broad range of individuals at multiple levelsAbility to manage change and adapt to ensure continual successSelf-starter with a high level of resilience and ability to work independently with limited directionExcellent attention to detail and organizational, analytical skillsAbility to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, manage time, and work in a fast-paced environmentEffective influencing and delegation skills, and the ability to manage results through othersGood computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and EHS data management systems.SIMS LIMITED IS PROUD TO BE AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER.
