YOUTH CARE WORKERDepartment: Youth Services Center FLSA Status: Non-exemptClassification/Level: POLE II Date Last Reviewed: 1/26/2021Under the direction of the Youth Services Center Administration, the Youth Care Worker provides supervision and assists in maintaining a safe environment for the youth in our care.Essential FunctionsResponsible for the supervision of the youth and maintaining a safe environment including wake-ups, showers, meals, recreation, study time, assigned work, special and seasonal activities and bedtimeDocuments and updates files and paper work concerning the care of the youthEvaluates residents’ behavior, resolves conflicts and addresses behavioral problemsCreate and update students school charts to maintain accurate recordsFile appropriate paperwork for schoolAssist the teacher with classroom dutiesComplete a detailed safety care plan for each resident upon arrivalMaintains communication with supervisors concerning residents’ behavior, ensuring prescribed treatment plans are implemented and in compliance with all plan specificationsMaintains clean unit with residents’ assistance including, but not limited to, sweeping floors, cleaning furniture and appliances, washing windows, stocking and sanitizing bathrooms and changing bedsEnsure all hazardous hygiene products are kept in a secure location and out of reach of childrenTransports residents to off-campus activities and appointmentsDeep clean and sanitize school equipmentEnsure all students are practicing social distancing and wearing masksDeep clean and sanitize units three times per dayCount, record, and dispenses medications and perform first aid to residents as needed.Model, assist, and act as a role model teaching daily living skills including hygieneWork one on one with students to help complete school assignments Creates structured activities for residentsTeaching and documenting life skills to residents 16 years and olderSupervise and document residents’ visitation phone callsClosely monitor students while on computers to ensure they are on appropriate sitesAssists with intake of new residents, including completing required forms and securing clothes and personal possessionsMaintains inventory of supplies, linens and personal hygiene products. Distributes upon request, ordering supplies as neededAttend monthly mandatory staff meetings Understand and abide by CARF standards, policies, and procedures Complete TCI training and become certified within 1 year of hirePerforms all other duties as assignedRequirementsHigh School or GED, Associates Degree or two years of college credits preferred, and one-year experience working with youth or young adultsValid Driver’s License to operate County owned vehicleMust be 21 years of age or olderAbility to maintain confidentiality of all Departmental records and informationWorking knowledge of local, state and federal laws applicable to Youth Services Center operations with the ability to apply and enforce regulationsStrong written and verbal communicationAbility to enforce center rules and regulations, resolve conflicts, respond to emergencies and take authoritative actions as neededPrevious training as Youth/Child Care worker and crisis interventionAbility to prepare accurate and detailed records of all resident’s behaviorAbility to safely restrain residentsDifficulty Of WorkThe Youth Care Worker understands the rules and regulations regarding the supervision of youth. Work consists of relatively standardized tasks when evaluating resident’s behavior and completing the necessary reports and records.ResponsibilityThe Youth Care Worker performs a variety of standardized assignments including cleaning and housekeeping duties to maintain the Youth Services Center requirements. Work is reviewed upon completion and requires some judgment when resolving conflicts and behavioral problems.Personal Work RelationshipsThe Youth Care Worker maintains frequent communication with other County employees, personnel from other agencies and potentially violent and hostile youth residents regarding enforcing rules and regulations and providing information regarding the residents.Working ConditionsThe Youth Care Worker must be able to move around freely with frequent walking required with some lifting up to forty pounds, and some reaching over head, kneeling, crawling and climbing ladders with frequent pushing and/or pulling loads and bending with some exposure to temperature extremes, dangerous equipment, chemicals, noise, noxious odors/fumes and frequent need to restrain residents.SupervisionNoneLicensingCPR/First Aid/AEDValid Driver’s License to operate County owned vehicleImmediate SupervisorYouth Services Center SupervisorHoursVarious hours as neededEeo Category1104Workers’s Comp Code8380Please complete the application accurately and thoroughly.
