Lead Electrical Engineer – Microgrids & Power Integration $140,000-$175,000 + equity Remote role - travel to NCRemote role - Maximum of 50% travel to lab in Raleigh North Carolina, so ideally be located in the East Coast.I’m partnering with a small, fast-growing technology business developing a new distributed power-generation platform for critical data center infrastructure.The system architecture is in place, and the product is now moving through final integration, verification and testing ahead of its first commercial deployments.They are looking for a Lead or Staff Electrical Engineer to become the senior electrical voice within the team and take ownership of how the complete system comes together.This is an opportunity to work beyond an individual converter or subsystem. You will lead the end-to-end electrical integration of power conversion equipment, energy storage, generation assets and switchgear within a multi-component microgrid.What you’ll be doing:Defining system-level electrical requirements and detailed product specificationsEstablishing power-distribution architecture, grounding strategies and protection coordinationIntegrating BESS, power-conversion equipment, generation assets and switchgearLeading supplier design reviews and providing technical oversight of third-party subsystemsDriving formal hardware development through DFMEA and DVP&RModeling system performance using MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSIM, SPICE, ETAP or similar toolsLeading test planning, hardware bring-up, verification and pre-compliance testingSupporting root-cause debugging, field commissioning and troubleshootingRepresenting electrical engineering across mechanical, firmware, software and product teamsEstablishing engineering best practices and mentoring other team membersWhat they’re looking for:8+ years of hands-on experience in power electronics, electrical distribution or heavy system-level integrationStrong knowledge of microgrid architecture, BESS, generation assets and power-conversion systemsExperience taking hardware through a formal product-development lifecycleUnderstanding of industrial communications such as CAN, Modbus, Ethernet or RS-485Experience with electrical simulation and ECAD toolsWorking knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70, UL 1741, UL 9540, UL 2200 or IEEE 1547The ability to operate equally effectively at the architectural level and hands-on in a high-power lab environmentOnce the initial product is deployed, you could remain involved in its next generation or support other power and sustainable-infrastructure technologies being developed across the wider group.The business offers the technical ownership, visibility and pace of a startup, but with the financial backing, stability and built-in route to market provided by a larger, profitable parent group.If you’re interested in taking technical ownership of a new critical-power platform as it moves from development into deployment, please message me directly for further information.
