Job DescriptionJob Title: Part Time Adult Education English as a Second Language InstructorPosition Summary:The Adult Education English as a second language Instructor provides English language instruction to adult learners within various community classrooms. The instructor develops and delivers engaging lessons that focus on communication by enhancing reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills with real life applications for transferable skills. This role is instrumental in helping participants achieve educational, personal, or employment goals, such as obtaining a high school equivalency diploma or improving literacy skills to communicate effectively with a child's teacher, or to increase employability.Duties and Responsibilities:Instructional Delivery:Plan and deliver effective English language lessons tailored to the needs and skill levels of adult learners adapted from the designated curriculum.Utilize diverse and current teaching methods and materials, including technology to engage students and accommodate different learning styles.Incorporate real-world contexts to make lessons relevant and meaningful for participants.Uses designated curriculum and resources to design and implement lesson plans aligned with program objectives and standards.Incorporate life skills, workforce readiness, parenting education, and/or civics content as appropriate.Assess students' progress through formal and informal methods, including quizzes, assignments, and observations.Adjust instruction based on assessment results to ensure continuous improvement.Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and safe learning environment in alignment with program policies.Encourage active participation and foster a sense of community among learners in hyflex, online, or in- person environmentsMaintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and achievements in compliance with program requirements.Prepare and submit required reports, lesson plans, and documentation in a timely manner.Coordinate with program staff and external stakeholders to support participants' educational needs, recruit potential students, and promote the benefits of adult education programming.Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and program-related events as required.Collaborate with parents and family members to incorporate literacy practices into daily routines and home environments. Qualifications:Education:Bachelor's Degree in TESOL, Education or a related field required.Experience:Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience required, experience teaching adults preferredRecent experience in teaching English as a second language, literacy, or foreign language is preferredK-12 teaching Certification is highly desirableStrong instructional and classroom management skills.Ability to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.Proficiency in adapting teaching strategies to meet diverse learner needs.Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.Proficiency in using technology for student record management and virtual instruction. Skills:Additional Requirements:Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR Clearances required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.Working Conditions: This is a part-time position with flexible hours to accommodate student needs, including potential evening or weekend, and virtual, hybrid, and in person sessions. This position may involve standing, walking, and active engagement throughout the day.
