READING TEACHER (half-time)

Position Type: High School Teaching/English - Reading Date Posted: 5/22/2026 Location: Discipline Alternative School JOB DESCRIPTION Provides individual and small group instruction to students enrolled in the alternative school setting. Works collaboratively with school, teachers, administrators, parents and related service providers in the overall educational plan for students. QUALIFICATIONS Valid Texas Certification that covers grades 6-12 in Reading Language Arts EXPERIENCE Secondary teaching experience RESPONSIBILITIESImplement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the District's curriculum program. Ensure that classroom instruction reflects accommodations for individual students learning needs.Plan and use appropriate teaching and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment and technology that reflect understanding of the learning needs of students assigned to DAEP and present age- and grade-appropriate subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, KISD Board Policy and Administrative regulations.Work cooperatively with home campus special education teachers to ensure that curricula is accommodated and/or modified for students receiving special education support, as outlined in their Individualized Education Plans.Work with other DAEP staff to determine instructional and behavioral goals, objectives and methods, pursuant to district policy and guidelines.Conduct ongoing formative assessment of student achievement.Serve as a positive role model for students and community members, in support of the District's mission.Create a classroom culture conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students.Manage student behavior in accordance with the District Student Code of Conduct and Student/Parent Handbook.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect and ensure the safety of students, staff and guests.Compile, maintain and file required reports, records and other student information.Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with students, parents, colleagues and community members.Actively participate in staff development activities and faculty meetings to improve professional skills and student outcomes.Comply with all state, district and campus regulations for classroom teachers. SALARY The salary for the above position will be based on the salary schedule currently in effect by Board Policy and Administrative Regulations. $54,000 - $78,100 187 DAYS
