The employee is committed to incorporating these qualities and standards in carrying out the calling to Christian education. In addition, the ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships, representing Christ and HCS professionally and positively with the HCS community-at-large, including faculty and staff, Board members, parents, volunteers and others is crucial to the success of this role. EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent.Age and Residency: Must be at least 21 years of age and a resident of IndianaLicensing and Tests: A valid Indiana Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Class B Passenger endorsement and Class S, School Bus endorsement. INDOT physical and Eye Exam with a least 20/40 vision in each eye, 150 degree field of vision and 80% depth perceptionScreening: Criminal background check and DOT drug screen. Subject to random drug screening, and an INDOT physicalDriving Record: Maintain a clean driving record. No more than 2 moving violations or suspensions/revocations in the past 3 years. No DWI/DUI convictions within the last 10 years. Applicants with experience driving a school bus for another school corporation will be asked to grant permission to Heritage Christian School to obtain a history of drug testing/results from the previous school corporation(s). Must remain a CPR and AED certification.ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Proficient defensive (bus) driving skills under all road conditionsEffective verbal and written communication skillsDemonstrate competent observation skillsSkilled at conflict management/resolutionAble to multi-task, and remain alert and focused amid distraction and/or emergency situationsMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Adhere to all department policies and procedures, including rider safety guidelines, bus maintenance standards, and all state requirements for school bus drivers.Perform thorough pre- and post-trip inspections of the bus before and after each driving trip, following established procedures.Maintain assigned buses by keeping them fueled, cleaned, and in proper working condition.Assist with annual and bi-annual bus inspections as needed.Perform bus evacuation and seat belt drills according to policy and applicable equipment requirements.Report any mechanical issues to the department dispatcher immediately and follow proper communication protocols.Address student and parent concerns calmly and effectively, maintaining professionalism in all interactions.Document all incidents involving disciplinary action with students or parents in accordance with standard procedures. Follow department communication guidelines with the dispatcher during roll call, at scheduled check-in times, and as requested.Maintain all required certifications in compliance with state laws and school policies.Complete the state-required annual summer safety online training and attend weekly driver meetings.Drive assigned routes safely and reliably for daily student transportation.Drive for weekday field trips, sports events, and other school-related activities as assigned.Support daily bus recess duties and assist with other on-campus driving needs.Provide assistance with non-driving responsibilities during school events when needed.Other duties as assigned.The above description covers the most significant duties performed but does not restrict the administration's right to assign or reassign other reasonable duties, responsibilities, or expectations to this job at any time, with or without advance notice.
