The Summer School Teacher is a professional position with primary responsibility to coordinate and deliver age and grade-level appropriate instruction and assess student learning. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Ability to professionally relate to and collaborate with co-workers, students, and community members Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality Ability to use technology effectively to complete tasks Ability to report to work daily and on time Ability to organize, supervise, coordinate and establish priorities of tasks to be completed Ability to work independently in the absence of detailed instructions and to follow complex oral and/or written instructions Ability to communicate orally or in writing, courteously and tactfully, with staff, students, parents, and the community in a timely manner Ability to work under pressure Possess excellent time management skills and the ability to take initiative and make decisions within assigned responsibility in a challenging, fast-paced professional environment and be flexible in work responsibilities and hours Possess knowledge of the programs, policies, and procedures of the St. Mary's County Public Schools Ability to provide guidance to students to promote education development and welfare DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Plans, delivers, and evaluates specially designed instruction as it relates to student IEP goals and objectives in various forms to include online and virtual instruction Collects and maintains student work samples and data as it relates to the IEP goals and objectives Implements student adaptive behavior supports including, when necessary, self-care and hygiene routines (e.g., toileting feeding, etc.) Provides care and protection of school property Supervises student activity on school property Plans and coordinates the instructional program in accordance with the current curricula Maintains accurate student records Assists students with learning activities Maintains open lines of communications with students, staff and parents Maintains a safe and orderly environment for staff, students, and parents/guardians Effectively manages student behavior Participates in professional development and/or professional meetings as needed Performs other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Required Current certificated SMCPS employee Bachelor's degree Maryland State Department of Education Certification Preferred Experience in teaching TERM OF EMPLOYMENT This is a temporary/hourly position for the course of the summer, not to exceed September 1 of each fiscal year. There is no guarantee of continuation in this position from one fiscal year to the next. SALARY: The rate of pay for this position is $40.00/hour for staff holding MSDE certification. PROJECTED DATES AND HOURS: (In addition to the dates, compensation may be provided for necessary professional development, planning, recordkeeping, staffing, and/or other programmatic needs.)
