$21.96 - $32.94 Hourly$45,680 - $68,520 AnnuallyThis position is a Pay Band C5Posting DetailsInterviews are anticipated to be conducted within one (1) week of closing date.Note: THIS IS A TRAVELING CREW.Why does the job exist?This position will operate medium to heavy duty equipment in a safe and efficient manner to repair and maintain interstate, roads, roadways, highways, bridges and structures, and erosion repairs throughout District One for the safety of the traveling public.How does it get done?By operating medium to heavy duty equipment. Utilize hand and power tools. Perform operator level maintenance on equipment and tools.Who are the customers?The traveling public and pedestrians.Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will have the following experience:- Operate medium to heavy duty equipment with or without attachments to repair and maintain roadways and bridges, guardrail and fences.- Utilize a computer to enter daily work activities.- Utilize hand tools to maintain and repair equipment, buildings, grounds and fixtures.- Train co-workers and work independently with minor supervision.- Perform preventive maintenance checks and services on equipment and tools.Minimum QualificationOne (1) year of experience maintaining roads and operating medium to heavy-duty equipment to include loaders, five (5) and ten (10) yard dump trucks, self-propelled brooms, rollers, or mowers. Must possess a valid driver's license and a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (or equivalent licenses from another state) upon hire. This position may require Herbicide, Tanker, and/or Hazmat endorsement.Employment RequirementsThis position is designated a safety sensitive position within the meaning of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and must abide by all provisions of the Federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment requires successful completion of a post-offer physical and pre-employment drug test; employment is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and a Class A Commercial Driver's License at the time of hire. Tanker endorsement may be required. Business and/or personal reference checks and driver's license verification are also required and employment is conditional pending results. Must successfully pass demonstrated abilities test with a 75% or better.Working ConditionsWork is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions - hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow; exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash; exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals and/or asphalt and petroleum products; exposure to temperatures up to 150 degrees around oil distributor operations; high speed/high volume traffic and loud noises; subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances for litter control; hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may also be performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers and printers. May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call out for weather, accidents and/or emergencies on short notice; willingness to accept change of geographical assignments; interaction with the public.
