Database Analyst/ProgrammerThe main function of a database analyst/programmer is to coordinate changes to computer databases, test, and implement the database applying knowledge of database management systems. A typical database analyst/programmer is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing security measures to safeguard the computer database.Job Responsibilities:Test programs or databases, correct errors and make necessary modifications.Modify existing databases and database management systems or direct programmers and analysts to make changes.Write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of database to management system or direct others in coding descriptions.Skills:Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.Basic ability to work independently and manage one's time.Basic knowledge of database management software.Education/Experience:Associate's degree in computer programming or equivalent training required. 5-7 years experience required.Typical Day:Research existing mainframe programs and documenting/flow charting findingsEnhancing existing programsWriting custom one-time-only use programs to perform data modificationsDocumenting change evidence for FSA/SOX complianceTechnical Skills Required:2+ years experience with the client's mainframe environment, preferably GIS Cluster C / A -COBOL development3+ years -SQL / DB2 programming mainframe3+ years -IMS or CICS development2+ years (IMS preferred)2+ years with debugging tools like Xpeditor, Abend-Aid –2+ experience working with end-customers on IT requirements / testingSoft Skills Required:Good communicatorEducation Requirements:Programming certificate degree - at least undergrad / community college 2 yr.
