THE COMPANY 89bio is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of innovative therapies for the treatment of liver and cardio-metabolic diseases. The company's lead product candidate, pegozafermin(BIO89-100), is a specifically engineered glycoPEGylated analog of FGF21. Pegozafermin is being developed for the treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and severe hypertriglyceridemia (SHTG). THE ROLE Based in our San Francisco Office, the Program Manager / Senior Program Manager, reporting to the Head of Program Management, will play a key role in ensuring the successful execution of cross-functional R&D projects. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with Clinical, Regulatory, ClinPharm, and other departments to drive coordination, communication, and proactive risk management. The (Sr.)Program Manager will be responsible for supporting various sub-teams, developing and maintaining comprehensive project plans, and ensuring that program goals are met within the agreed budgets and timelines. Additionally, this role will involve supporting budgetary planning at the program level and presenting project updates to stakeholders. THE RESPONSIBILITIES Cultivate a collaborative, high-performing team environment by fostering open communication, trust, and partnership among team members Identify and mitigate risks proactively, helping to develop strategies to address potential issues before they impact the program timeline or budget Develop and maintain comprehensive program management documents, including project plans, RAID (risks, actions, issues, and decisions) logs, charters, communication plans, and budgets Plan, coordinate, and implement program activities within agreed-upon budgets, timelines, and scopes, ensuring alignment with overall program objectives Lead and facilitate cross-functional sub-team meetings by setting agendas, capturing meeting minutes, and tracking action items to ensure alignment and progress toward key objectives Monitor and present project updates to stakeholders and team members through regular status reports, dashboards, and meetings Collaborate with Business Operations and Finance to support tracking and management of the R&D program budget, ensuring financial accountability and transparency THE QUALIFICATIONS B.S. degree in applicable discipline. An advanced degree is preferred but not required. Program Manager: 3-5 years of experience Project/Program Management within the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry Senior Program Manager: 6+ years of experience in Project/Program Management within the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry Knowledge of GxP and compliance requirements relevant to R&D in the biotech/pharma industry Experience in regulatory submissions and interactions with regulatory agencies is a plus Proven ability to motivate cross-functional teams, building trust, fostering collaboration, and maintaining strong partnerships to achieve project milestones Solid understanding of the drug development process, from pre-IND stages to commercialization, with experience navigating the challenges of each phase Track record of delivering results in fast-paced, innovative, and dynamic environments, demonstrating flexibility, proactivity, resourcefulness, and efficiency Exceptional verbal and written communication skills Strong problem-solving and creative thinking abilities Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with a strong commitment to accuracy and thoroughness in project documentation and reporting SALARY & LEVEL 89bio considers a range of factors when determining the salary and level. These considerations mean actual salary and level may vary. The salary range for this position is $126,000 -$160,000 and will be commensurate with experience.
