Job TitleTaiwanese Interpreter LocationWork from Home (United States) Compensation & BenefitsPay: $0.60 - $0.75 per minute. Independent contractor – not eligible for employee benefits. Position OverviewThe Taiwanese Telephone Interpreter handles calls on demand, rendering meaning of conversations between Taiwanese and English speakers across various industries, including health care, government, insurance, financial, utilities, travel & hospitality, general business, law enforcement, court, and 911. The interpreter processes information quickly, concisely and recognizes sensitive cultural differences. Essential Job FunctionsRespond promptly to interpretation sessions and conduct interpretation in a friendly, professional manner. Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions. Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions. Maintain a professional demeanor and remain calm during sessions, especially when callers are incoherent or upset. Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours. Follow client instructions and protocols, ensuring client expectations are met and avoiding interaction with the LEP without client permission. Understand industry terminology for various sectors including medical, insurance, finance, and law. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and work effectively in a diverse environment. Remain on calls for extended periods if needed and handle high call volumes while meeting company service standards. QualificationsFluency in Taiwanese and English with understanding of associated cultural dynamics. Ability to provide cultural competency and assess regional and accent differences. Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills for accuracy. Ability to concentrate, stay detached and remain objective during sensitive subjects such as end‑of‑life conversations, pregnancy termination, vaccinations, and discussions of sexual orientation or gender expression. Education or work experience in language‑related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation, or interpretation preferred. Adaptability to technology enhancements that improve service delivery. Minimum age 18, legally authorized to work in the United States, and ability to read/write both languages (highly preferred). Technical RequirementsDedicated personal device for business purposes (desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone). Operating systems: Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS (tablets: iPadOS or Android; smartphones: iOS or Android). High‑speed internet connection: download ≥ 5Mbps, upload ≥ 3Mbps, ping ≤ 300ms, jitter ≤ 30ms. Quiet space free from background noise or distraction. Access to company‑provided software and systems. Physical RequirementsOperate keyboard and mouse and remain in a stationary position in front of a computer most of the workday. Operate software and systems reliably.
