Data Center Technician I

Job SummaryThe Entry-Level Data Center Technician supports the installation and maintenance of structured cabling and infrastructure within data center environments. This role assists with installing copper and fiber cabling, building cable pathways, installing racks and cabinets, and organizing cable management systems. Technicians work closely with experienced technicians and supervisors while learning industry standards for telecommunications and low voltage systems. This position provides hands-on training and an opportunity to develop skills in data center infrastructure, safety compliance, and installation practices while supporting active construction and infrastructure projects.Job ResponsibilitiesInstall copper and fiber cabling according to project specifications and industry standardsPull, route, and secure cables while maintaining proper bend radius and cable separationInstall cable pathways including ladder rack, basket tray, J hooks, conduit, and fiber tray systemsInstall racks, cabinets, ladder rack, grounding systems, and related infrastructure hardwarePerform rack and stack installation of equipment within server cabinets and racksTerminate copper cabling and assist with fiber cable terminationsDress, label, and organize cables within racks, cabinets, and cable management systemsSupport Outside Plant fiber installation entering data center facilitiesReceive materials and assist with hardware assembly and equipment preparationPerform basic cable testing and assist with advanced testing when requiredRead and interpret construction drawings, cable maps, and installation diagramsFollow safety protocols and maintain compliance with OSHA and site safety standardsMaintain clean, organized, and compliant work areas throughout the shiftCommunicate progress, issues, and material needs to supervisors or lead techniciansDocument completed work, cable counts, and installation changesCoordinate with other trades to avoid installation conflicts and maintain project timelinesSupport lead technicians and foremen with installation tasks and project executionJob RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent0 to 2 years of experience in data center, telecommunications, or low voltage environments preferredBasic understanding of structured cabling systems including copper and fiberAbility to pull, route, and secure cables through ladder rack, basket tray, J hooks, and conduit pathwaysFamiliarity with copper cabling termination such as Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat6A preferredExposure to fiber cabling or fiber termination preferredAbility to read and interpret construction drawings, cable maps, and installation diagramsBasic knowledge of cable testing tools such as continuity testers, tone and probe, or fiber testing equipmentUnderstanding of cable bend radius, cable support requirements, and structured cabling standardsAbility to work safely on construction sites and follow safety protocolsStrong communication skills and ability to report progress, issues, and material needsAbility to maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with data center standardsAbility to work on ladders, lifts, overhead spaces, and occasionally in confined areasAbility to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds when necessaryAbility to stand and work on feet for extended periods during shiftsOSHA 10 certification preferredWork ExperienceEntry-level candidates are encouraged to applyExperience installing low voltage cabling in commercial, industrial, or data center environments is beneficialExperience working on active construction sites and coordinating with other trades is helpfulBenefitsHealth insuranceDental insuranceVision insurance401(k)
