As a subsidiary of Red Tree Venture Capital, we provide leadership and investment in seed and pre-seed stage companies to develop platforms and drug leads to support company launch and Series A investment. As we expand our operations, we are looking to hire our first in-house Scientist, who will work out of MBC Biolabs to support our seed-stage company builds as well as early pre-seed projects.Role DescriptionLocation: San Marcos, California (On-Site)Reports to: VP of BiotherapeuticsClassification: Full-Time ExemptBenefits: Health insurance, discretionary bonus, 401K, potential for equity / stock options.We are looking for a rockstar Scientist / Senior Scientist with experience in Drug Discovery, Immunology, and Protein Sciences that can hit the ground running in the lab, working on multiple projects in different therapeutic areas. This is a hands-on, lab-centric role, that offers the unique opportunity to help bring novel therapeutic concepts to fruition and be a part of the company building process from ground up. Working at MBC Biolabs in San Carlos, you will have access to state-of-the-art lab equipment with training opportunities and be part of an exciting biotech ecosystem with ongoing scientific seminars and learning opportunities. As our first (and for right now, only) bench scientist, you will be a critical part of advancing our therapeutic programs through experimentation that is complementary to leveraged external CROs. You will work with an incredible team of drug hunters and investors at RTVL and have access to our network of world-class experts in therapeutic drug discovery, disease biology, and early drug development. QualificationsPh.D. in immunology, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular biology or related field with an extraordinary track record of productivity and accomplishment from the lab bench, with 2-4 years of post-graduate experience. Previous industry experience strongly preferred.Highly independent in designing, executing, and interpreting experimentsFearless in solving problems; willing to leave your comfort zone, learn new techniques, and ask the tough questionsHas excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; able to persuasively convey both ideas and data, orally, in presentation and written formatProven skills as an effective team player who can work collaboratively to engender credibility and confidence within the companyPassionate about developing new treatments for cancer, autoimmune diseases, and neurological disordersYou have technical familiarity and hands-on experience with:Structure, function, and design of antibodies, including bi- and multi-specifics, T cell engagers, and related modalitiesBiochemical and biophysical methods for characterizing antibodies such as ELISA, flow cytometry, immunocytochemistry, and surface plasmon resonance (SPR)Establishing and optimizing cell-based and biochemical assays both from off-the-shelf kits and from scratchIsolation and culture of primary human and mouse immune cell subsets, including immune cell profiling by multi-color flow cytometry and cytokine quantificationFunctional immune cell assays including T cell activation, differentiation, cytokine profiling, ADCC/ADCP, etcPhysical Requirements:Prolonged periods sitting of at a desk and working on a computer and standing, reaching and bending.Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.The above is intended to describe the essential functions and requirements of work being performed by this role.
