These are seasonal positions at Camp Earl Wallace. The Conservation Camp Counselor willinstruct and assist in the instruction of campers in a program of archery, swimming, water safety, huntersafety, first aid, or nature study.This is an Interim position. An Interim position means a position established to address a one-time orrecurring need of less than nine (9) months duration and exempt from the classified service under KRS 18A.115.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Instructs and assists in the instruction of campers in various conservation camp programs. Teaches anddemonstrates applicable methods, principles, and techniques.Works with young campers in developing sportsmanship, leadership, and an appreciation for and aninterest in the conservation of natural resources.Counsels the campers and has responsibility for monitoring campers in their cabins at night.Leads general camping activities.Preferred Skills and Abilities include, but are not limited to, the following: First Aid and CPR certified, certified lifeguard, basic archery instructor, and a hunter education Instructor.Responsible and positive outlook.A willingness to work as part of a team.A self-starter/motivated individual.Adaptability and Flexibility.Minimum RequirementsEDUCATION:NONEEXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:NONESubstitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:NONESubstitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:NONESPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Upon employment, must obtain certification in one of the following areas no later than thirty (30) days from employment commencement date: Red Cross Water Safety Instructor; Red Cross Life Guard; Red Cross Life Guard Instructor; Red Cross Basic Life Saving; Red Cross Small Craft Instructor; Red Cross Standard First Aid; Red Cross Small Craft Safety; American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); Red Cross CPR; Hunter Education Certificate; Hunter Education Instructor; NRA Instructor Certification; Bow hunter Education Instructor Certificate; Boater Education Certificate; or Basic Archery Instructor Training Certificate. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.Working ConditionsWorks in a conservation summer camp for young people. Duties are performed in a rustic setting and most of the time are spent outside.
