Position Overview We are seeking a motivated Engineer I to join our System Planning team in Naperville, IL. This hybrid role offers an excellent opportunity for early-career engineers to gain hands-on experience in power system design and construction. The successful candidate will apply engineering principles, design criteria, and software tools to support the development of power-related systems and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities Apply engineering processes and design standards to develop power system solutions.
Support cost estimation, design option development, and construction specification preparation.
Provide oversight and quality assurance for contractor-developed designs and construction packages.
Promote a safe work environment by prioritizing safety in all tasks.
Understand and support planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance processes.
Collaborate with internal departments to ensure alignment across design and construction activities.
Utilize design software and adhere to industry and Southern Company standards.
Assist in developing and maintaining system design standards and criteria.
Support field teams during construction and maintenance operations.
Estimate materials and transmit construction packages and specifications.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
0–5 years of related engineering experience.
Introductory engineering knowledge and basic problem-solving skills.
Ability to make limited independent decisions with supervisory review.
Basic proficiency in discipline-specific software.
Intermediate proficiency in MS Office.
Ability to read and interpret engineering plans.
Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and effective communication skills across all organizational levels.
Preferred Qualifications Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
Internship or co-op experience in an engineering field.
Basic proficiency in CAD/GIS.
Experience with hydraulic analysis and project management.
