As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Landscape Designer to join our landscape division who can capture the customer's vision and deliver Bern's quality results. This position will be involved in all aspects of project development, sales and design, including presentation preparation, schematic design, planting plans, planting specifications, and project administration.Duties Including but not Limited to:Preparing, reviewing, and approving drawings and renderings as requiredMay coordinate technical and administrative activities with employees in other disciplines and other departments participating on an assigned projectDevelop, review, and implement construction documents, project budgets, and schedulesPreparingsite plans, working drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for land development, showing ground contours, vegetation, locations of structures, and such facilities as roads, walks, parking areas, fences, walls, and utilities, coordinating arrangement of existing and proposed land featuresPreparingcost estimates, including project research, alternates and quality take offsParticipates in regularly scheduled project meetingsMaintains relationships with owners, consultants, and employees at all levelsAssist in the training and evaluation of assigned architectural and design/drafting personnelReviews and understands assignments and tasks and how they fit into strategic project goalsMust maintain customer contact throughout sales process, including payment collectionResponsible for estimating and maintaining acceptable gross margin on all opportunitiesWill work with production team to see that customer needs are met and quality meets Berns standardsMust have expert knowledge of plant material based on hardiness, size, growth habit, and exposure. Will source plants that are readily available.Must be able to visualize the needs of the customer and communicate those needs both verbally and through renderings.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:Dependable, honest and trustworthyPolite, courteous, patient, and the ability to handle difficult people with tactStrong attention to detailProven written and verbal communication skillsStrong sense of initiative, independence, and organizationFlexibility to function as part of a team, collaborate with colleagues and change priorities as dictated by workflowMust present a professional appearance and demeanorA Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or Horticulture Design and/or 3+ years of professional experiencePrior customer service and/or sales experience is a plusProficiency in current technologies: AutoCAD or other design software, Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office are required. Knowledge and use of Aspire software is a plus.Asks thoughtful and relevant questions, strong conceptual and critical thinking skillsAbility to produce strong graphic communications (computer and/or by hand)Field experience and horticultural knowledge is a mustAbility to work effectively in a collaborative team environmentAbility to travel domestically as requiredJOB ENVIRONMENT:Up to 50% of this job is performed inside the building and the remaining 50% is outside, travel and sales. When outside there is exposure to all types of weather: heat, sun, high humidity, rain or cold. There is exposure to packaged soils and soil amendments, packaged chemicals, pollen, seeds and various types of plants. When inside the temperature is regulated. Personal drafting tables, drawing tools and computers are provided. Some sitting, standing, bending, kneeling is required. The tools used in this job include calculators, drafting tools, smart phones, computers, fax, and copier.
