The paraprofessional must have the physical stamina for lifting and movement of an ambulatory student. The Paraprofessional should exibit emotional stability and good judgement in making decisions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the supervision of the teacherSupport instructional activities with students under the direction of the classroom teacher.Provide appropriate health/hygiene relatedConfer with the teacher, as requested, in evaluating student(s) progress, coordinating tests and homework assignments, and/or implementing IEP objectivesAssist in implementing behavioral plans indicated by the IEPInstruct special education student(s) one-on-one or in small groups to assist the teacher in implementing goals for remediation of student deficiencies and ensuring student successMonitor student's activities and behavior.Monitor special education student(s) during lunch, recess, field trips or as designated by the teacher to ensure a safe and positive learning environmentPerform record keeping and clerical functions as neededAssist in the feeding of assigned student(s) as neededReport observations and incidents relating to specific students concerning unacceptable behaviorRespond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concernsAssist other staff as required to ensure an efficient and effective learning environmentPerform other duties as assignedEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:High school graduate or equivalentA minimum of 60 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university (or) pass the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment Test with a score of 460 or higher.Previous experience working with special education students is preferredSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Attend any training as mandatedWORKING CONDITIONS:Noise level in this work environment may be moderate to loudSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: NoneFISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES: NoneCURRICULA RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist the teacher in delivering instructional objectives for a given subject and/or classroom to Special Education students, as developed by the buildingMETHOD OF EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
