We are determined: We are on a relentless quest to make our community stronger, beginning with you.RequirementsPosition Title: Lead CounselorReports To: Camp DirectorDepartment: CampClassification: Full Time, Non-Exempt, SeasonalCompensation: $17.00-$18.00/hourPOSITION SUMMARY:The Lead Camp Counselor is responsible for providing a fun and safe environment for children to play, learn and grow. This position will be in charge of the supervision of a direct group of campers and will lean in to help other lead counselors and the camp director as needed. With support from camp leadership, the lead counselor will prepare the day-to-day activities for the campers and direct the assistant counselors as needed.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Responsible for directing assistant counselors on lesson plans and activitiesDirectly responsible for the supervision and safety of a group of campersAbility to lead and assist in varied group activities and daily routineCommunication to director regarding issues and or concernsArriving to work on time and prepared to start the day with a positive attitude toward each child, coworker and inquiring parents while wearing the designated camp shirt and ID lanyard at all timesOther duties assigned by immediate supervisorQUALIFICATIONS:At least 18 years of ageHigh School diploma or equivalent preferredExperience with lesson planning and working with kids ages 4-16 preferredWill need to provide three letters of recommendationMust be able to pass a Child Abuse & Neglect background check through DHHSResponsible, dependable, enthusiastic and able to communicate effectivelyStrong understanding of the YMCA mission and adhere to YMCA valuesMust be willing to work flexible hours from 6/15/2025 through 8/21/2025Current Adult/Child CPR and First Aid Certification before 6/15/2025 (internal training provided)WORKING CONDITIONS:A required 30-hour training week will take place between 6/8/25 and 6/12/25CPR/AED and First Aid required before 6/15/2025CORE COMPETENCIES:Mission Advancement: Accepts and demonstrates the Y's vales.
