Financial Controller

Title: ControllerOverview:Our client is seeking a Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting function for a ~$50M nonprofit organization. This is a newly created role, upgrading from a Senior Manager level, with full ownership of the close, reporting, and accounting operations. The Controller will partner closely with senior leadership and play a key role in strengthening processes, controls, and scalability.Why This Role:Newly created position with clear ownership and visibilityOpportunity to build and improve accounting infrastructureMission-driven organization with strong growth and national recognitionExceptional benefits, including 100% employer-paid healthcare for employees and familiesKey Responsibilities:Own the full month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closeLead financial reporting, including preparation of financial statements and executive reporting packagesOversee all accounting functions: GL, AP, AR, payroll, and cash managementEstablish and maintain strong internal controls and GAAP compliancePartner with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and board reportingLead audit process, including financial statement and single audit supportOversee tax compliance, including Form 990 and regulatory filingsDrive process improvements and support future system enhancementsManage and develop the accounting teamTeam Structure:Reports to: SVP FinanceDirect reports: 3 (Accounting Manager, 2 AP Clerks)Indirect oversight across broader accounting operationsQualifications (Must-Have):Strong GAAP accounting foundationExperience operating as a Controller or senior accounting leaderAbility to lead accounting for a ~$50M organizationProven ownership of full close and financial reportingExperience managing teams and improving processesPreferred:CPAPublic accounting backgroundNonprofit experience (including fund accounting / ASC 958)Systems:Sage (or similar ERP experience)
