LDAR / BWON Technician

Location: Artesia, NMIndustry: Oil & Gas | Environmental Compliance | Refinery OperationsThe LDAR / BWON Technician will work onsite at a refinery in Artesia, New Mexico, supporting environmental regulatory compliance for major oil and gas operators. This role focuses on Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) and Benzene Waste Operations (BWON) programs in accordance with EPA and state regulations.This position is ideal for candidates with experience in LDAR, Method 21, BWON, OGI/IR inspections, or those looking to build a long-term career in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS). We provide specialized training, a defined career path, annual raises, and competitive benefits.Position Purpose / Key ResponsibilitiesPerform LDAR and BWON monitoring at a refinery following predetermined routesIdentify and inspect LDAR-applicable equipment, components, and flagged linesEnsure compliance with EPA regulations (40 CFR) and site-specific requirementsConduct Method 21, AVO, BWON, OGI/IR, and visual inspections (including 40 CFR Subpart QQQ)Use portable analyzers, electronic data collectors, and tablets to accurately monitor componentsGenerate and distribute Leak Reports, Notifications, and Emissions Reports per site requirementsUpload daily monitoring data to customer databases and complete required documentationRe-monitor repaired leaks and support calibration drift checks when instruments failManage Management of Change (MOC) updates to ensure equipment databases remain accurateCommunicate daily leaks, findings, and concerns with operations and maintenance teamsEscort regulatory auditors during inspections and assist with corrective actionsIdentify opportunities to improve LDAR program efficiency and effectivenessDevelop skills to lead LDAR projects and perform LDAR auditsProgressively learn to read and interpret P&IDs Required Knowledge & ExperienceLDAR, BWON, refinery, or chemical plant experience preferred but not requiredFamiliarity with EPA environmental regulations and refinery operations is a plusExperience using portable gas analyzers, tablets, and electronic data systems preferredBasic computer skills required (Microsoft Word, Excel, data entry systems)Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify leak causes and equipment issuesProven communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with site personnel Essential FunctionsReport all incidents, injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediatelyDemonstrate competency in LDAR technologies (OGI/IR and other monitoring methods)Work closely with Site Supervisors, management, and customers to meet compliance goalsReview work completed by others and identify gaps or areas of concernPerform re-monitoring and follow-up inspections as requiredSupport audits and regulatory inspectionsPerform additional technician duties as assigned Skills & AbilitiesStrong written and verbal communication skillsHigh attention to detail and strong organizational skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionProblem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvementAbility to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced refinery environmentStrong safety mindset with commitment to personal and team safetyAbility and willingness to wear respiratory protection for extended periodsReliable attendance and dependable transportationWillingness to work extended hours, weekends, and occasional out-of-town travel PROtect Perks:Health, Dental, VisionHSA/FSAHSA Company Match401K with up to 4% Match, 100% Vested immediatelyPTOFree Mental Health Courses and ResourcesFree Financial Coaching Classes/ResourcesClear Career Advancement OpportunitiesContinued Education ReimbursementsRelocation/Travel OpportunitiesReferral Bonuses for top talentBusiness Development BonusesMonthly Safety Competitions with PrizesAnnual Competitions with Prizes
