A well established, mission driven nonprofit organization in New York City is seeking a Human Resources Manager to support its growing and highly collaborative team. The organization is committed to expanding community impact, fostering an inclusive culture, and ensuring that staff have the resources they need to succeed.Position SummaryThe Human Resources Manager will oversee day to day HR operations, support employees and managers across the organization, and help strengthen HR systems and processes. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced nonprofit environment. The HR Manager will partner closely with leadership on employee relations, talent development, compliance, and organizational culture initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesLead Talent Acquisition: Own full-cycle recruitment and onboarding to build a diverse and robust team.Manage Payroll & Compliance: Administer multi-state payroll and ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations.Foster Employee Development: Implement performance management, training, and development programs to support growth and engagement.Enhance Culture: Champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging while fostering a collaborative and engaging workplace culture.Streamline HR Operations: Oversee compensation, benefits, policies, and compliance to ensure seamless HR processes.Advise Leadership: Partner with senior leaders on employee relations and organizational strategies, providing guidance and solutions on critical matters.QualificationsExperience: 5–7 years of HR experience, with a focus on payroll (multi-state preferred), recruitment, compliance, and employee relations.Hands-On Approach: A proactive, resourceful mindset with experience in smaller HR teams or as the key HR lead in an organization.Strategic & Tactical Skills: The ability to balance big-picture thinking with day-to-day execution.Bachelor’s Degree: A degree in any discipline that supports your HR expertise.Tech Savviness: Proficiency in HRIS systems, payroll tools, and performance management platforms.Strong Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.Knowledge of Regulations: A solid understanding of HR laws and practices, particularly for multi-state operations.Who We’re Looking ForThe perfect HR Manager is someone who thrives in a hands-on role and is ready to wear many hats. You’ve worked in smaller HR teams or as the sole HR expert and have the ability to independently manage payroll, compliance, and people strategies.
