Laboratory Equipment Intern

As the Laboratory Equipment Technician (Intern) for our the environmental laboratories. you will be responsible for inventory, preventive maintenance scheduling and repairs of various laboratory equipment. Including vacuum pumps, fans, chillers, heating blocks, meters, etc. Perform general cleaning, filter changes, oil changes, dust and dirt removal, etc. Perform other tasks as assigned. This is a Part Time position, with hours within Monday- Friday, with a Flexible schedule and some on-call hours required as needed.Our facility is headquartered in Cranston, RI and sits on 16 acres of land with 9 areas of commercial building space. The commercial area includes general office space, laboratory space, and warehouse areas. Additional office locations are located throughout MA. This position will require occasional travel is required to site office locations (Cranston, RI, Middleboro, MA and Worcester, MA) per maintenance projects and repairs, as assigned.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Inventory laboratory equipment requiring regular maintenanceAssist with performing preventative maintenance and replacement functionsOperate and maintain a complete set of hand, power, and shop tools used to maintain and repair the equipmentComplete needed equipment repairs as they occur in a timely fashionRespond to emergency service calls for repairInspect and correctly diagnose standard malfunctions in equipmentWork with manager to estimate time and cost of repairs and cost of equipment Minimum Qualifications: Ability to perform basic mechanical repairs.Work independently, exercising judgment and initiativeAbility to inspect and correctly diagnose standard malfunctions in equipmentPerform minor and major technical repairs and adjustments within the time frames as establishedAbility to Read and interpret manuals, schematics, plans and specifications related to dutiesComputer proficientPreferred Qualifications And EducationEntry level - 3 years of mechanical experience Mechanical experience preferred Basic Experience with general small equipment repairMust have current/ Valid Driver’s LicenseExperience with circuit boards a plus!Physical DemandsAbility to lift up to 40 lbs.This job operates in both indoor and outdoor environmentThis role routinely uses specialize tools and equipment to complete your tasksStanding, stooping, walking, bending, reaching, pulling and pushing Climbing stairs and laddersClarity of vision at both over 20 feet and under 20 inchesAble to judge depth, have a good field of vision, and identify and distinguish colorsDrivingReading, typing and computer inputSedentary workNavigate uneven terrainWork Environment, Position Type, Expected Hours of Work and Travel:This job operates in a working laboratory environment. Position will entail some exposure to laboratory chemicals, dusty environments as well as occasional sedentary work.
