Fosters a collaborative team culture in a supportive environment. A high-speed environment to refine new graduate ability to transition into a competent nurse.Qualifications:Required:Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing
Completion of all orientation requirements of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center
Successful completion of all orientation programsPreferred:Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or currently matriculatingCertifications and Licenses Required:Current Registered Nurse License in the state of New Jersey
Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart AssociationScheduling Requirements:Full-Time

Every other weekend requiredEssential Functions:All patient-related hospital departments, patients, families, visitors, nursing personnel and medical staffActively participates in discharge planning and, upon discharge, ensures a written teaching discharge plan has been developed for assigned patients concerning disease process, complications, medications, diet, physical activity and self-care needs.Appropriately delegates but remain ultimately responsibleAssumes charge nurse functions as delegated by Nurse Manager, including assessing staffing needs, organizing and delegating work assignments based on patient acuity and individual staff skill levelsCompletes daily patient classification according to facility policyCompletes unit-based competencies as per JCAHO requirements and hospital policyAttends competency day and completes all required competencies in a satisfactory mannerRemains knowledgeable about all current nursing policies and proceduresComplies with Medication Reconciliation Policy Complies with unit and departmental scheduling guidelinesDelivers individualized patient care consistent with established standards of care, policies and procedures and other regulatory standardsDemonstrates positive guest relations by introducing yourself to the patient and familyOrients patient and family to the nursing unitTakes all appropriate measures to ensure patient satisfaction and the availability of the patient representativeReports the patient's family problems to the nurse manager or her designee in a timely manner.Demonstrates proficiency with phlebotomy sticks based on established policies and proceduresDemonstrates understanding of states blood administrative hospital procedureComplies with blood and blood product administration policyDetermines the effectiveness of patient care through patient interviews, assessment and patient compliance to the plan of care and adjusts patient care to meet changing needsFormulates and revises plan of care for assigned patients based on patient problems, patient age, nursing intervention, and specific outcomesIdentifies the patient's significant other needs for patient education and provides education utilizing appropriate educational modalitiesUses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age-specific needs and provide specific treatment and careInitiates IV sticks, maintains IV sites and monitors IV fluidsProvides IV care and documents using established policies and proceduresInitiates or participates in continuous interdisciplinary quality improvement activities for the patient or departmentMaintains complete, accurate, concise documentation of patient status, nursing interventions and patient responses within tour of dutyDocuments medications in accordance with nursing policyMaintains the role of patient advocate and takes all appropriate measures to ensure patient safetyUses good nursing judgmentProvides privacy and confidentiality and exhibits tact and compassion at all times, regardless of circumstancesActivates the chain of cnd when appropriate, on behalf of the patient's care needsRecognizes signs and symptoms of complication of Pain Management Therapies and intervenes appropriately PCA PCEA Epidural blockStates the proper mechanism for activating cardiac respiratory arrestDemonstrates understanding of code cart check and procedure for replacing items on code cartTransmits pertinent patient information to the appropriate individual MD, supervisor, discharge planner etc. using SBAR for hand-off communicationUses an understanding of the principles of pain management to assess each patient's individual needs and provide appropriate and specific treatment and careUtilizes all available resources in the initial assessment of the patient, including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, discharge planning, self-care and education and reassessment each shift, upon transfer and dischargeProvides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent serviceAdheres to patient rights and provides for the confidential treatment of all communications and recordsDemonstrates professionalism with families, visitors, physicians, co-workers and supervisorsListens and communicates effectivelySupports teamwork by cooperative problem-solving through participation in meetings, projects, etc.Utilizes principles of continuous quality improvement in all work situations to assess, measure and improve organizational and department functionsOrganizes assists with weaningAssisting with intubation and extubationDemonstrates proficiency in the care of Telemetry patients and the related equipment needed to care for these patients: electrode placement, arrhythmia interpretation, code care, etc.Demonstrates proper procedure for chest tube management, including proper set-up, drainage, and dressing procedureDemonstrates understanding of proper airway
