ABE/HiSET Test Preparation Instructor (Part-Time)Exeter Adult Education SAU 16 | Exeter, New HampshireExeter Adult Education, part of the Exeter School District SAU 16, is seeking a part-time ABE/HiSET Test Preparation Instructor to support adult learners working toward their high school equivalency credential.The ideal candidate is an engaging educator who believes in the mission of public education and in helping learners reach their academic, personal, and career goals. This position is particularly well-suited for educators with an elementary education background, strong foundational teaching skills, and the ability to teach across content areas.Instruction focuses on reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies, with an emphasis on mathematics instruction aligned with the HiSET exam. Candidates should be comfortable supporting students with varying academic levels and learning needs. Pay is hourly. Our programs support individuals seeking to improve literacy skills, earn a high school credential, prepare for college or career training, and discuss professional goals.As part of the Exeter School District SAU 16, our work reflects the district's mission to foster engaged learners, thoughtful citizens, and lifelong learning within a supportive and inclusive community.Essential ResponsibilitiesThe Instructor will:Plan and deliver engaging HiSET test preparation instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies, with a focus on math skill development.Develop and implement standards-based lesson plans aligned with College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and HiSET testing expectations.Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages adult learners to persist toward their educational goals.Consistently evaluate learners' academic levels, prior knowledge, and learning goals.Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction.Provide explicit, scaffolded instruction that supports learners with varied academic backgrounds.Integrate technology and digital learning tools to support instruction and student engagement.Maintain accurate attendance, student records, and progress documentation in accordance with program and state requirements.Support students in developing test-taking strategies, study skills, and confidence for the HiSET exam.Collaborate with Exeter Adult Education staff to share instructional strategies and support program improvement.Participate in professional development opportunities related to adult education instruction.QualificationsRequiredBachelor's DegreePrior teaching and instructional experience requiredStrong communication and organizational skillsAbility to teach foundational math concepts through AlgebraComfort working with learners of varied academic levels and backgroundsBasic computer and technology skillsHighly DesirableElementary Education backgroundExperience teaching math, reading, or writingExperience working with adult learnersFamiliarity with HiSET, GED, or high school equivalency preparationKnowledge of College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS)Experience with Evidence-Baseed Reading Instruction (EBRI) Desired CharacteristicsThe Successful Candidate Will DemonstrateA commitment to helping adults achieve academic and career successStrong relationship-building and classroom facilitation skillsThe ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learnersFlexibility, creativity, and a collaborative mindsetA belief in lifelong learning and educational opportunity for all
