We’re not looking for someone who simply clocks in and out. We’re looking for someone who thinks about what they’re building and why it matters. Every decision you make impacts our team and if done right, lands directly in the product. We’re also looking for someone who can hold the technical complexity of a growing SaaS platform while staying grounded in the mission behind it.You’ll be working alongside a talented team who is thoughtful in their methodology, cares about the work, and how we help solve one of the single biggest issues facing instructional course design—making it accessible to every learner, without exception. You will use AI tools in your workflow. We do. But we want to understand how you think, not just what you produce. Your application should show us both.About This RoleWith CourseArc, instructional designer and faculty can create sophisticated, accessible learning environments without needing a technical background. That simplicity on the surface requires serious engineering underneath. Your job is to build and maintain the systems that make it possible, and to help us figure out what comes next. This is a varied role and we mean that genuinely. One day you might be designing a new AI feature with the CTO, the next triaging a production issue, the next rebuilding a system that’s been due for a proper overhaul. If you thrive on that kind of range, enjoy hard problems, and like being close enough to the mission to feel why it matters, you’ll fit right in! And yes, we will absolutely respect a great Spotify playlist or a well-timed meme. Our Position on AIAI is a crucial component of our platform and essential for daily operations. The value of AI in the development process is undeniable. With that said, we expect AI fluency rather than AI dependency. We want developers who use AI thoughtfully, guiding the AI to complete tasks with oversight, rather than letting agents modify the entire codebase without a second thought. We are looking for an experienced developer who does not outsource their thinking. If you can work with AI as an instrument rather than a crutch and explain your AI workflow, let’s talk! What You will Be Doing:Platform Development and ArchitectureOwn important features through the full development lifecycle, from design through deployment and ongoing operation.Work across the stack in a LEMP environment, comfortable moving between backend and frontend as the work demandsDrive meaningful improvements to platform architecture and contribute to long-term technical strategyImplement reporting solutions that give our clients visibility into what matters to themAI Features and InnovationBrainstorm with the CTO and other stakeholders to conceptualize and build new AI-powered features for educators around the globeDesign and develop multi-agent systems that expand what CourseArc can do for instructional teamsStay current on the AI tooling landscape and bring informed opinions about what’s worth building withTechnical Leadership and StandardsServe as a technical leader within the engineering team, offering guidance on key architectural and implementation decisionsImprove engineering standards, processes, and tooling so the team moves faster and breaks fewer thingsTranslate complex technical concepts clearly for non-technical teammates and stakeholders, without condescension or shortcutsClient Support and Platform ReliabilityPartner with our support team to triage and resolve production issues with urgency and careTreat client-facing reliability as a product responsibility, not just an ops oneDocument what you build well enough that the next person, including future you, can work with itWhat You Should Have:Judgment first. Technical depth second. The stack matters, but we can work with someone who learns fast. What we can’t replicate is the ability to look at a system under pressure, understand what’s actually broken, and fix it without making three other things worse.Proven experience delivering high-quality code in Python and PHP (Keep in mind: a portfolio of work samples speak louder than a resume alone.)Comfort working in a full-stack LEMP environment, across backend and frontend systems from design through test, deployment, and operation.Strong communication skills—able to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical peers.A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent training or work experience.Strong problem-solving skills, an organized self-starter and quick learn who can work remotely.Proficiency with content management systems and familiarity with SaaS platform architecture.Genuine familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG compliance is not an afterthought here, it is the foundation.)
