Physician (Psychiatrist)

Overview This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval—award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years)—is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications United States citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy) English language proficiency (proficient in basic written and spoken English) Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved VA‑listed medical school Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any US state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification Residents in accredited ACGME/AOA residency programs who meet the basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee‑basis; PRPs are not independent practitioners and are supervised Preferred: 3 years of psychiatric practice experience Physical requirements: able to perform essential functions of the position without hazard to self or others; vision, color vision, hearing, or speech may be required depending on duties; reasonable accommodations or assistive devices may be used Duties Outpatient/General Mental Health (GMH): work as part of a clinical team with duties in program development, patient care, and educational programming, including collaboration with the national inter‑professional education program GMH team focuses on team‑based, evidence‑driven care and uses outcome measures to ensure optimal Veteran care Provide educational and research opportunities and, if qualified, receive a faculty appointment in the University of Wisconsin Department of Psychiatry Addictions: work as a core member of the interdisciplinary team, delivering outpatient mental health and addictions treatment, teaching, and research as desired Direct services: individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, medication assessment and management, consultation to other medical and nursing providers on psychiatric issues, behavioral interventions, facilitation of referrals to behavioral health services, and record clinical information per standardsCollect and maintain required statistical information Participate on service and facility committees, task groups, or special projects to ensure compliance with agency directives and identify gaps in services to be addressed Provide staff development, training, and oversight to behavioral health staff, interns, volunteers, and others as directed by the Chief of Behavioral Health Service Deliver educational presentations to staff on topics related to mental disorder care and management in primary care settings Benefits Part‑time schedule: 24–32 hours per week (schedule discussed at interview) Relocation and recruitment incentives, including a sign‑on bonus for qualified applicants Competitive salary with annual performance bonus and regular salary increases Paid time off: 50–55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays, and up to 5 days of CME paid absence) Retirement: traditional federal pension (vesting after 5 years) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% VA contribution Federal health, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care, and other insurance programs (many can be carried into retirement) Malpractice: free liability protection with tail coverage Contract: no physician employment contract Certification and continuing medical education: up to $1,000 per year reimbursement for full‑time, board‑certified physicians Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) authorized: eligible for reimbursement of student loan payments under VHA policy (subject to program approval) #J-18808-Ljbffr
