Role SummaryAs a Material Services Specialist supporting Linen Services at Howard University Hospital, you will keep clinical operations moving by delivering clean linens, scrubs, lab coats, and uniforms to assigned clinical areas, and ensuring soiled linen is collected, transported, and processed safely and on time. Reporting to the Manager of Material Management, you will be a vital partner to nursing, physicians, and ancillary teams, helping the people on the front line have what they need, when they need it.What You’ll DoDeliver clean linens, clinical staff uniforms (scrubs, lab coats), and related supplies to assigned clinical areas on established schedulesCollect and transport soiled linens for processing while observing infection prevention and PPE requirementsConduct daily inventory counts (cycle counts) and pull replenishment stock from main inventories for delivery to designated locationsStock and re-stock to set par levels through the automated Supply Distribution System or non-automated stock locations as requiredInspect linens, uniforms, and consumable supplies for proper labeling, expiration where applicable, and intact packagingUse technology to order, receive, and process linen and material as neededCommunicate professionally with clinical staff, patients and families, physicians, and vendorsAssist the Materials Manager and Supervisor with inventory control activitiesMaintain the safety, security, and cleanliness of Materials Management areas and the loading dock by clearing containers, trash, and debrisComplete and submit daily paperwork related to replenishments and issues, with attention to accuracy and full identification of work performedAdhere to infection control protocols, HIPAA, the Howard University Code of Ethics, and Health Sciences Standards of ConductMaintain strict confidentiality of patients, families, and staffPerform other duties as assigned consistent with the scope of this roleRequired QualificationsHigh School Diploma or G.E.D. requiredOne (1) year of distribution or materials handling experience in a hospital or medical facility (or related experience) preferredWorking knowledge of materials management policies, operations, and proceduresFamiliarity with stocking, inventory, and supply trackingAbility to follow written and oral instructions and exercise sound judgment on detailed assignmentsStrong customer service skills, with a courteous and professional manner toward patients, guests, and coworkersTime management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks within tight timeframesBasic computer proficiencyPhysical ability to walk and stand for extended periods (approximately 90% of shift), lift up to 35 lbs, and lift or carry items 35 lbs or greater using equipmentAbout Howard University HospitalHoward University Hospital (HUH) is the nation’s only teaching hospital located on the campus of a historically Black university.
