Instrumentation Test Technician
Essential DutiesResponsibilities
Review test plan with engineers to understand data acquisition and sensor required
Control instrumentation and data acquisition required to collect crash test data
Self-Sufficient to prepare test setup, conduct test, and acquire/download the data
Handle instrumentation for testing:
Verify all sensor functionality prior to test
Select calibrated equipment for installation on vehicle
Assemble instrumentation in uniaxial, biaxial, or triaxial configurations
Repair or replace sensors damaged between install and test
Repair damaged and broken instrumentation:
Diagnose instrumentation issues and determine reparability.
Solder and splice small gauge wire as necessary
Properly document and dispose of non-repairable instrumentation.
Calibration and Traceability
Full responsibility for tracking data acquisition systems and sensor calibrations
Document instruments and calibrations in a database environment.
Work cooperatively in a team environment with other technicians and engineers.
Ensure the highest quality of data is recorded and processed
Other Responsibilities:
Parts and equipment ordering.
Maintain shop equipment and tools.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment.
Experience and Skills
Experience working in automotive development and testing environment
Experience instrumenting a test vehicle, system, or component
Experience with soldering, splicing, and other low voltage electrical repairs.
Familiarity with instrumentation and sensors
Familiarity with digital signal processing
Familiarity with calibration standards
PC skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity and ethical behavior.
Ability to multi-task and meet time constraints.
Excellent Communication and writing skills.
Excellent interpersonal relationship skills working in a culturally diverse environment.
Education
High School Diploma
Automotive technology certification, degree or equivalent preferred
AAS Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or similar discipline
Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
